The Odyssey
 in Dr. Master's Class
To prepare for our study of the quintessential hero's journey,The Odyssey, and to better identify and empathize with the character of Odysseus and decisions he must make as a leader, each student in Dr. Master's 9H English class was asked to create a board game that  followed his own personal journey to his first day of high school at TABC . At  the heart of the game were to be at least four decisions  that either helped the student arrive at this day or hindered him in some way. As anyone can see from the photo, the students enthusiastically embraced this project, even though choosing the most important decisions in their lives so far and then creatively formulating them into a game were not easy tasks. After a few students presented their games to the whole class, the entire class broke into groups and played each other's games. It proved to be a way for the students not only to understand Odysseus but to get to know each other as well.
Matmidim Celebrate the
End of a Difficult  Sugya
Rabbi Kessel and his Matmidim shiur celebrated finishing the tough sugya of Tzroros on Wednesday.  They enjoyed Chickie's and a kumzitz led by Seth Maza, Eli Spinowitz and Joe Baron.  They finished off the three blatt with some inspiring divrei Torah about the upcoming limud and presentation about Chanukah.  They will now have a special test on all 3 blatt and move to the 6th perek.

Makerspace News
We began having classes in the Makerspace this week! Our 9th graders have started to work with circuits and with measuring properties of electrical components, while our 12th graders have been soldering wires in the process of building autonomous cars. Students have been coming to the Makerspace outside of class time to work on their projects!

TABC Welcomes Rabbi Daniel Price
On Wednesday TABC welcomed Rabbi Daniel Price, Head of School at the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey. Rabbi Price visited TABC and met with over 65 of his former talmidim.

RYNJ alumni from both TABC and SINAI enjoyed a special breakfast in TABC's STORM Café where Rabbi Price had an opportunity to catch up with the students and share a d'var Torah. Citing comments of Chazal relating to the week's parsha, he explained how the angels were jealous of Yaakov because of the opportunities for free choice which Hashem provided him. Rabbi Price encouraged his alumni to take advantage of the many wonderful opportunities which are available to them at TABC, from daily night seder to Sunday morning shiur with Rabbi Wiener.
Rabbi Price was amazed at how much the current TABC students have grown (both in physical stature and as studious young men) and thoroughly enjoyed visiting several shiurim within the sixteen different available tracks. Rabbi Price spent some time observing the beit midrash style learning in the 11th & 12th grade honors shiur.

Both Rabbi Price and Head of School, Rabbi Asher Yablok,  shared nachat as they observed just some of the fruits of their collective efforts in educating these bnei Torah who are no doubt headed for continued success.

Multiple Modes of Measurement
in Chemistry Class
This week in Mrs. Kopel's chemistry classes, students practiced their measuring skills in the laboratory. In this four-step lab activity, students measured different precisions of length, mass, and volume using different tools to measure the same objects. They used balances with three different sensitivities to find masses of metals to tenths, hundredths, and thousandths places. They used meter sticks and rulers to measure textbooks and tables in the lab, and even used meter sticks to measure the dimensions of the classroom to calculate its volume. They then solidified their understanding of accuracy and precision by playing darts, aiming at different parts of our makeshift dart board.

Real Life Applications of Halacha with Rabbi Jachter
Almost every week Rabbi Jachter brings tastes of life as a real life Dayan to his Mishna classes.  This is particularly relevant this year as we learn Masechet Sanhedrin in Gemara and Seder Nezikin in Mishna.  Introducing real life situations to the Beit Midrash and classrooms brings the learning to life, and adds a completely new dimension to the Torah experience.  For example, this week Rabbi Jachter dedicated a class to presenting a real life case (changed somewhat to protect the privacy of the parties involved) involving a labor dispute as to the proper remuneration for services rendered.  Rabbi Jachter explained the mechanics of the case from the signing of the arbitration agreement (Shtar Beirurin) to the actual hearing, the decision making process of the dayanim and the execution of judgment in real life.

This week Rabbi Wiener and Rabbi Jachter exchanged classrooms with Rabbi Jachter's Y9 benefiting from Rabbi Wiener's masterful teaching and Y10 having the opportunity to learn about a real life Beit Din case from Rabbi Jachter.  What was particularly poignant was that Y10 student Chananyah Mondrow's mother, Jordana Mondrow, Esq. works as the Din Torah coordinator at the Beth Din of America. Rabbi Jachter weaved the roles played by Mrs. Mondrow in to the class.  Even Chanayah enjoyed learning and understanding more about his mother's professional endeavors!

All Alumni, parents of current students and parents of alumni have the opportunity to share this experience this coming  Motzaei Shabbat, November 17th at the TABC Beit Midrash at 7:15 P.M. Alumnus Eliezer Shaffren '01, Esq. has coordinated with Rabbi Jachter to present on the topic "What Every Lawyer Should Know about Financial Litigation in Beit Din".  One CLE credit is available for this hour long shiur. Thank you to Eliezer's firm, Madison Title Agency for providing the CLE credit.
Two Consecutive Wins for
STORM Varsity Basketball
On Thursday night, November 8th the TABC Storm basketball team went on the road and defeated the DRS Wildcats 38-37.  It was a must win game for the Storm after a rough start to the season and they responded with ferocious defense right from the opening tip.  Many of the TABC fans made the long trip to the Five Towns as they cheered on while the Storm took the lead in the 3rd quarter and held on for the 1 point victory. The team secured their next win on Monday night, November 13 as they soundly defeated the RTMA Thunder with a 57-33 win.   Both games were an all around team effort and a big wins that hopefully the Storm can build on as they head into the main part of their season.
