Thank You Fix It Blitz Volunteers
North Richland Hills Neighborhood Initiative Fix It Blitz

Thank you to the 250 or so volunteers and businesses who completed Neighborhood Initiative Fix It Blitz projects over the past several weeks. A total of 23 homes were repaired and 7 yards cleaned up for elderly, disabled, veterans and single parents who did not have the means or ability to do the work themselves.  Participating groups included City of NRH employees,  Keep NRH Beautiful  Commission,  The Home Depot Keystone Church North Park Baptist Church Center Point Church , Exchange Church,  Halff Associates, Inc. , GreenWing ProWash and several families and individuals. Their volunteer service is very much appreciated, and is one of the many reasons North Richland Hills is a great place to call home! You can learn more about the Neighborhood   Initiative  Program at www.nrhtx.com/NIP.

Recycle Cooking Oils & Grease

Please don't put oil and grease from your holiday feasts down the drain, which can lead to clogged sewer pipes. Put it in the trash or recycle it instead! The NRH Public Works Department will collect used cooking oils and grease for recycling November 26 - 30 and January 2 - 5. Containers holding discarded oils and grease must be made of plastic and have a screw top lid. Please call 817-427-6457 to arrange a pick up or get more information.

November 24, 2018 is Small Business Saturday, a day when we make an effort to shop local and celebrate our small businesses and the contributions they make to our local economy and community. Did you know that according to the Small Business Administration, there are currently 30.2 million small businesses in the U.S., representing 99.7 percent of all businesses? They also employ 47.5 percent of employees in the private sector. Consider supporting small businesses in North Richland Hills not only on Small Business Saturday, but every day of the year. Mayoral Red Kettle Challenge

Mayor Oscar Trevino needs your help to win the Salvation Army's 2018 Mayoral Red Kettle Challenge. He is competing against mayors of other area cities to see who can raise the most money for the Salvation Army this holiday season. Visit the Mayor's Online Kettle to make a donation today. The Mayor and other community leaders will also ring the Salvation Army red kettle bell on Friday, December 7 at the  Holiday Magic Christmas Tree Lighting & Family Festival and on Saturday, December 15 at several locations in NRH.

The Mayoral Red Kettle Challenge creates a fun rivalry between cities, but most importantly the money raised here will stay in our community, helping the Salvation Army provide year-round programs and services to individuals and families in need in North Richland Hills.

Annual Toy & Food Drive

The North Richland Hills Police and Fire Departments are holding a toy and food drive to benefit those who are less fortunate in our community. Residents are encouraged to share in the holiday spirit by dropping off new, unwrapped toys and nonperishable food items to the Public Safety lobby at City Hall, 4301 City Point Drive, or any NRH Fire Station. Donations will be accepted from Thanksgiving through December 19. All toy and food donations will help families in need through the Community Enrichment Center, as well as other local community organizations.

Adoptable Pets

Blue, a 2-year-old retriever  mix and O.G., a 1 1/2-year-old short hair cat, are two of the many pets at the NRH Animal Adoption & Rescue Center who are hoping to find a new home for the holidays.  Blue's adoption fee has been waived thanks to a generous sponsor. He has a limp that may have come from being hit by a car. The vet has taken a look at him and thinks he just needs time to heal. He never lets it slow him down. He will sit or lay down for treats. He will be your loyal forever friend.  O.G. is a great cat. He enjoys being held and loved on.

The center is offering half price adoptions now through December 31.  Visit today at 7301 Iron Horse Boulevard or go online to  www.nrhtx.com/aarc to see more pets currently available for adoption. The center will be closed Nov. 22 and 23 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
