Are You Too Attached To
Your Employer Stock?
It's common, especially for Baby Boomers to have spent the majority of your working years employed by the same company. A lot of time and effort is put into building a career to be proud of, and as you reach retirement age, you want to maximize your investment strategy to ensure you're able to live the retirement you've dreamed of having.

If you spent most of your career with the same employer, you were likely rewarded with company stock. It's common to feel a sense of attachment to the stock - it represents years of your commitment and hard work.

While you may feel the need to hold onto something so significant, it's important to take a realistic approach and determine how the stock fits into your overall investment strategy and goals for retirement.

Click here for 3 signs you may be too attached to your employer's stock.
Did You Know?
- 41% of American Baby Boomers stayed with their employer for 20+ years.

- Of those who stayed with the same employer, more than 3/4 received a pension plan or company stock.

- Retirement benefits ranked highest of driving factors to stay over any other benefit, including healthcare, paid vacation and flexible work hours.

Planning Tip
Consider a 529 account for your child or grandchild.

It's no secret that education is expensive. College costs are increasing at about two times the rate of inflation each year, and the trend is expected to continue.

If you're looking to give your child or grandchild a gift with a lasting impact, consider contributing to a 529 College Savings Plan on their behalf. 529 plans are one of the best ways to help a child or grandchild financially while limiting your own tax liability.

If you have questions or are interested in setting up an account for your child or grandchild, please call our office at (518) 584-2555.
The opinions voiced in this material are for general information only and are not intended to provide specific advice or recommendations for any individual.

Prior to investing in a 529 Plan, investors should consider whether the investor's or designated beneficiary's home state offers any state tax or other state benefits such as financial aid, scholarship funds, and protection from creditors that are only available for investments in such state's qualified tuition program. Withdrawals used for qualified expenses are federally tax free. Tax treatment at the state level may vary. Please consult with your tax advisor before investing.
