WORD for the Week for June 9, 2019
Pentecost
A nine-week worship series: Green Faith
Week 7
Green Faith: Mobilizing God's People to Save the Earth

This spring and summer, you are invited to confront global climate change from a faith perspective during our 9-week series focusing on Green Faith.

Using the book  Green Faith: Mobilizing God's People to Save the Earth  by Fletcher Harper as our guide, the Hennepin community will explore how "God is calling us to live differently" in the age of global climate change. We will explore how we can and must take action to protect Creation, reconnect to nature-based spirituality, and commit more fully to environmental justice.

Every Sunday, you will hear Green Faith-themed sermons on topics like "Many Faiths, One Earth," "The Pale Blue Dot," and "Our Kairos Moment." Throughout the series, we're hosting events and programs to explore Green Faith through art, film, music, food, discussion, and more.

Spend the season deepening your Green Faith at Hennepin.

COME AND WORSHIP
Sabbath Beginnings – Sacred Journey – Traditional Worship
WORD for Sabbath Beginnings 8am

Worship Leader: Rev. Dwight Haberman

Holy Communion: The Pale Blue Dot earth, the tiny dot in a massive sky taken from a spacecraft is an iconic gift suggested by the astronomer Carl Sagan. It seems to suggest the magnificence of the universe and insignificance of our world and our human existence. It is exulting and humbling. In what I consider our growing self- centeredness the photo brings to my mind the scriptures, Psalm 8, from The Message. “I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky jewelry, Moon and stars mounted in their settings. Then I look at my micro – self and wonder, why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?” Ever wondered about that? You might learn something about yourself and God and how God wants us to care for this precious dot. Read on to find out. Psalm 8: 5-9.

The Story:     Fire in the Belly” – Rev. Nate Melcher

Reflection:   It’s an extraordinary week in Sacred Journey as we celebrate a quarter-century of creativity, storytelling, and hospitality. That’s right—Sacred Journey is 25! Rev. Nate Melcher is this week’s Storyteller, as he says farewell to Hennepin on his final Sunday as Hennepin's Associate Pastor. Invite a neighbor or friend to share this amazing day, hear the Pentecost narrative, give thanks to God (and eat cake). All are welcome as we begin the next stage of the journey!
WORD for Traditional Worship 10am

Preaching: Rev. Nate Melcher

Reflection: This is Pastor Nate's final Sunday with Hennepin. Over the last five years, through odd scheduling, he has ended up preaching on nearly every Pentecost Sunday and this year is no different! The birth of the church is such a triumphant story! Jesus is embodied in the people who gather together to go out into the world. They have fuel, they have passion, and they have each other. This is exactly what our church has, too. How are you helping fuel our church? What ministry areas have you invested your passion? Who is your best "church friend" (and have you told them)? Let us celebrate all that God is doing in us, with us, and for us through the power of the Holy Spirit!

For the Children and the Adults in Their Lives: The world doesn't become a better place when we just sit around and talk about it. The world becomes a better place when we get up and go out with the Holy Spirit to make it happen! You have so much potential, and you are enough to make amazing things happen. If you and God were to partner up on a dream, what would it be? Who around you could help? What will you make happen so God's world is the amazing place it should be?
