Merry Christmas

“What?!” you might say. “Christmas is long over…if you’ve been in any store, you can clearly see that we have moved on to Valentine’s Day.”

As is frequently the case, our Church recognizes that one day to celebrate the significance of a holy day, in this case Christmas…Emmanuel…God is with us…is insufficient. According to the Liturgical calendar and tradition, we recognize the following:

The Christmas Octave – eight days beginning with the vigil of the Nativity ending on January 1 st the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
The Twelve Days of Christmas – twelve days beginning with Christmas Day and concluding on January 6 th , The Epiphany (some refer to this day as “Little Christmas.”
The Season of Christmas – all of the days from Christmas through to our celebration of the Baptism of Our Lord on the Sunday after Epiphany.

And some maintain a practice of 40 days of Christmas celebration until the celebration of the Presentation of Jesus on February 2 nd , also known as Candlemas.

At the Christmas program, I shared a quote from a homily that I had heard the previous weekend, “Christmas is not about presents but about presence.” We wanted to be present to our children and the presence of Jesus in each as they reminded us so beautifully that Christmas is about the coming of Jesus into our world both historically as a baby and each and every day through one another.

God IS with us each and every day. Are we present to His presence in our lives?

Doug Newton in his book, “Fresh Eyes on Jesus’ Miracles” speaks of “spontaneous ministry”, the experience of being sent to do something for someone at a particular moment. Any one of us may have been on either side of a “spontaneous ministry” moment. Maybe we were in need and someone miraculously appeared to assist. Or maybe we felt drawn to do something contrary to what we had planned only to discover that we were present at the right moment to help someone in need. We were present to God’s presence in our lives such that we could participate in “spontaneous ministry.”

May we experience God’s presence and share it
not just on Christmas day or in the Christmas season
but each and every day!

Scenes from Christmas Celebrations
Christmas memories are ones to cherish, especially those made here at All Saints.

On December 20th, the last day before the Christmas break one of our youngest students, Gael Silvestre accompanied by one of our oldest students, Owen Cardwell, Student Council President placed Baby Jesus in the manger during a special morning prayer.

Intermediate and Middle School students went Christmas Caroling throughout Elsmere, spreading Christmas Joy while our youngest students were treated to a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Christmas Concert
Our Elementary School Christmas and Instrumental Concert was a joyous occasion, from our littlest Saints performing with glee to our band students performing Christmas music with Principal, Dr. Muir.
Our PK3 students perform in the All Saints Christmas Program.
Instrumental Music Teacher, Ms. Herb, Dr. Muir and 8th grader Casey Corcoran perform.
Casey Corcoran on the clarinet.
International Peace Light
Maksym Pohorylo, Aubrie Nowak, Mason Jones and Savannah Zoladkiewicz initiated the passing of the flame with their grade level schoolmates.
The lantern, which holds the special flame that originated from Bethlehem. The flame is carried in a special container and flown all over the world.
Just before the Christmas break, the All Saints Catholic School community shared with each other the gift of the International Peace Light, brought to us by Anna Pohorylo, mother of Maksym, Larysa and Luka
Mrs. Pohorylo, a member of the Ukrainian Scouts, brought the flame to us in a lantern. This flame, which has traveled all over the world, originated from an oil lamp that has burned for centuries in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Students passed four candles, lit from the special flame, while “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” played in the background.
Dr. Muir and Mrs. Dzielak share the flame with PreK4 student and light bearer, Savannah Zoladkiewicz.
Boxtops Information
Box Tops for Education has entered the digital age

Historically, families have helped All Saints by clipping the Box Tops for Education off of products like cereal boxes and sent them to school.

Now, however, the program has launched an app designed to eventually replace the old system. A new smartphone app, simply called “Box Tops for Education,” allows users to scan their receipts whenever they buy participating products at any store. With each valid receipt scanned, the program donates 10 cents to the school of your choice.

The most popular items will have the new branding on the package by August, 2019.

The Box Tops for Education app is available on Apple’s App Store and Google Play store .

While traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production, they may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. You can still clip and send them to school.
Every valid Box Tops clip is worth 10¢ for our school. Make sure each one has a clearly visible product acronym and expiration date.

Box Tops for Education will continue to honor all clipped Box Tops until they expire, so please continue to send in your clipped box tops to school. Simultaneously, please download the app to your phone and start scanning your receipts as you identify All Saints as your school to support!

The Social Hall at All Saints Catholic School was the place to be this past Saturday, where our Home and School Association hosted the first Annual Hispanic Family Dinner. Delicious homemade hispanic foods, such as tamales, tacos, street corn, and quesadillas were available for friends and families to purchase. The fellowship warm and wonderful, and the food - well, Fantastic!

"A beautiful aspect of All Saints Catholic School is its diverse environment, of which the Hispanic community is a very important part," said Lucy Mondragon, HSA president. "Events such as our Hispanic Family Dinner, brings the entire community - from our school, our parishes and the greater Elsmere area - together. It is a great time to gather together, prepare delicious foods from scratch, and eat together."
The Ahmadpour family enjoyed a Saturday evening out at our HSA Hispanic Dinner.
