Ash Grove Cement Company
Ash Grove Cement Company previously expanded its Foreman, AR facility increasing production to 1.7Mt of portland cement per year, a capacity increase of about 700,000t of cement per year. Working under the direction of Teton Industrial (a PCL Company), F.L. Smidth, and Fru-Con Engineering Inc., Southern Industrial Contractors performed the sitework, pre-engineered metal design and erection, as well as various specialty concrete foundations for this $300 million plant expansion.
The sitework scope included the excavation of over one million cubic yards of dirt and the removal of over 200,000 cubic yards of rock, the placement of all storm drain piping and related concrete structures, the construction of over 5 miles of concrete and stone roads, and the installation of the water lines and other necessary underground piping. The PEMB work included the Raw Materials Storage Building which was a 300,000 SF pre-engineered metal building with eave heights up to 80 feet, heavy conveyor systems, and numerous equipment foundations. The building was 1,344 feet long X 180 feet wide clear span with peak heights of approximately 80 feet and a Standing Seam Roof with a roof pitch of 6 on 12. Construction of the Raw Material Storage Building completed in less than 5 months. Southern Industrial Contractors has been performing various upgrades and modernizations for Ash Grove Cement ever since our first project at Ash Grove's Foreman, AR facility in 2002.

Saint Gobain Norpro
Saint-Gobain's Proppants division previously added a 100,000-square-foot facility onto a 68-acre parcel of land in Saline County, Arkansas. This $100 million addition will manufacture ceramic proppants—spherical beads about the size of a grain of sand that maintain integrity under extreme pressure. Proppants are inserted into underground fractures in oil and gas wells to "prop" open the fracture and increase productivity of the wells. Under the direction of Mid-South Engineering of Hot Springs - AR, Southern Industrial Contractors performed various sitework, specialty concrete equipment foundations, as well as concrete paving around the new plant site; and were very proud to be a part of this landmark project.
