National Reunification Month!
|
June is recognized as National Reunification Month. This is a month when we celebrate and recognize all the efforts to make sure our families are able to stay together and children being able to return to their biological parents.
1,300 children were reunified with their families in 2018.

Back to School Party: Registration is Open!
|
The back to school party will be on Sunday, August 4 at Square Color Salon & Spa. You will be able to choose to attend one of three sessions on that day.
Please note: If you are unable to attend the event, you will be able to pick up a backpack and supplies at Peggy's Attic the week following the event, August 5-9.
Peggy's Attic Celebrates a Decade of Back to School Parties!
We would like to recognize and thank Peggy's Attic for being involved with back to school parties for 10 years and counting! All that has been done for children in care over the past decade would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the staff of Peggy's Attic!

Sesame Street Meets Karli!
|
Coinciding with National Foster Care Month, the Sesame Street in Communities initiative debuted a new muppet named Karli, who is in the foster care system. The initiative also developed resources for caregivers to help support children navigate foster care. Thank you Sesame Street! You can check out the resources

NACAC Conference Scholarships Available!

Good news for anyone wanting to attend the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC) Conference in July! There are a limited number of scholarships available to help cover some of the cost of attendance. Learn more about the scholarship and how to apply

CountMeIn.Vegas. The purpose of this new site is to help people find ways to say "Count Me In!", even if they aren't ready to be foster parents just yet.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is the outreach unit of the University of Nevada Reno that brings our community information to solve problems and deal with critical issues. Our more than 200 personnel (with the help of volunteers) deliver non-degree, educational programs to our community. Among them, Partners in Parenting team has been providing parenting education programs for parents/caregivers to promote positive parenting and child health and development, thereby preventing child abuse and other poor childhood outcomes. Our passionate instructors are dedicated to providing a fun and engaging program where parents and children learn together. All of our programs and workshops are available in English and Spanish and families can enjoy hands-on activities together. When available, we provide free books or materials. Our classes are held at CCSD schools, libraries, community centers, and many more locations.

Updates from CSG!
The Children's Service Guild (CSG) made sure that a fun spring was had by children in care. CSG hosted a a party, which included an appearance by the Easter Bunny. They also helped sponsor another egg hunt for children in care. You can read more about their busy spring

Quality Parenting Standards for Foster Homes: Placement
|
The next highlighted section of the Quality Parenting Standards deals with placement and works to help caregivers understand what they can do to help a child feel more comfortable in their new environment and also describes many of the common behaviors these children may exhibit.
The section also goes over the process of how a child gets placed in a home and some of the rules and regulations around that placement.

Grace Point offers respite care from 6 - 9 p.m. on the first Friday of each month.

The greatest tool to recruit new foster parents...are current foster parents.
Clark County DFS wants to help you host a recruitment party. We will provide the information and refreshments, all we need from you is a location and a minimum of five (5) potential foster parents confirmed to attend.

Foster Care Information Sessions!
There is always a need for more foster families in Clark County. The first step is to attend one of the many information sessions offered all across Clark County.
If you know someone who has been thinking of becoming a foster resource, click on the picture to see the full schedule of information sessions and help them take that first step.

Caring for a child is one of the most important things a person can do. Caring for a child who is not your own requires a special kind of dedication. There are many children in Southern Nevada who are unable to remain in their homes. Families who open their homes and hearts to these children are committed to improving their lives and their futures. Foster Change is committed to those families.
We are proud to be the foster and adoptive family association in Southern Nevada. For just $20/year, we offer monthly community connection groups, parents' nights out, family events, educational opportunities, play dates, and free car seat and CPR/first aid training. Many of our events include free childcare and meals. We also work together to advocate for support for all foster and adoptive families in Nevada. We look forward to meeting your family!
