World Class Schools for Our Students

Thank You
Warriors,

We made it. One week into our school year and we navigated through some pretty amazing obstacles. Knowing well the heart and spirit of our staff and students, it doesn't surprise me one bit that we were able to navigate through what may have been the most interesting and challenging start to a school year Norwalk Schools has ever experienced. We made it through as ONE!

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the local organizations and community members who have graciously stepped up to help Norwalk Schools make the start of this year as successful as possible. Thank you to City State Bank for providing breakfast bags for our staff on their first day. Thank you to Norwalk resident and grandparent, Michelle McClure, who generously donated 700 handmade masks for our students and staff this year! Thank you to the Norwalk Iowa Rotary and Women of Norwalk for purchasing and donating masks for all of our buildings. Additionally, the District will also be receiving funds from The 100 Men of Norwalk to purchase PPE that will help keep our staff safe at work. To everyone who has reached out to help, we are so thankful and in awe of your generosity!

I’d also like to thank our parents and families for their patience as we work through new and sometimes challenging ways of reaching our students. I know that the first week of school wasn't easy, but I can without a doubt guarantee you that our staff is dedicated to making sure both our in-person and virtual students are receiving the best Norwalk Schools can offer in these extraordinary times.

The Norwalk School Board will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 6:45pm. The meeting agenda may be viewed at this link: https://www.norwalkschools.org/district/school-board/school-board-meeting-agendas/
Please note that the board will meet (in-person) at the Eastview Cafeteria - the meeting will be streamed via Google Meet & Livestream.

Yours in service,

Norwalk Athletic & Activities Booster Club
by Aanna Hoch
The Norwalk Athletic Booster Club (NABC) is a strong organization with a rich tradition in Norwalk. We are a fiscally responsible and mission focused group. Through membership dues, annual fund raisers, robust concession sales and gifts in kind, the Athletic boosters are able to generously give back to all athletic programs at both the middle school and high school levels. Just this past year we gave nearly $50,000 in the form of equipment, gear, uniforms and other functional items to make the athletic experience a memorable one for all athletes and coaches.

The Athletic Booster Club isn’t just for parents of high school aged student athletes. If you’re a parent of a middle school student, grandparent of a first grader, an aunt or uncle, sister or brother, alumni, business owner – whoever you are – you are invited to join! We have opportunities for you to provide insight, volunteer your time at games or meets, and take part in the planning of upcoming events. We can do even more with your membership and participation.

If you love sports, the great lessons and opportunities they afford all student athletes on and off the playing field, and how athletics can unite a community, then sign up to be a part of the Norwalk Athletic Booster Club today. Onward Norwalk!

NCSD Nursing Staff Release COVID 20-21 Guideline Information for Parents

Dear Warrior Families,

As you know, the 2020-2021 school year will be different than previous school years and we will be redefining what a “normal” school day looks like. Returning to school in the fall of 2020 poses many new challenges for Norwalk Schools, including implementing mitigation measures (e.g., social distancing, requiring the use of face coverings when social distancing is not possible, increased cleaning and disinfection regimens, increased education on health hygiene, practices, etc.), addressing social, emotional, and mental health needs of both students and staff, preparing for the probability of COVID-19 cases in the school community, just to name a few. As always, our main goal is to protect the health, safety, and well being of our students and staff as we prepare to educate students this fall. As said many times, this is a fluid and flexible situation that can change at any point. We will continue to take direction from the CDC, Iowa Department of Public Health, Warren County Health Services, Iowa Department of Education and other public health agencies.
For more information regarding COVID monitoring and quarantine information, please visit our school nurses website by clicking on the button below.
Get the Facts About Coronavirus
The number one priority of the Norwalk CSD is to keep our students safe. As we continue to learn more about COVID-19 and MIS-C, we will follow the guidance of the Iowa Dept. of Public Health, Warren County Health Services, and the Center for Disease Control to do our best to keep our students and staff safe and healthy.

Symptoms
According to CDC, COVID-19 symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms or combinations of symptoms may have COVID-19:
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Or at least two of these symptoms:
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell

Face Covering Information
Students, staff and visitors will be asked to wear face coverings this school year to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
