The Summer 19' Guide is Here and Registration Began Monday April 1st at 6am!
The guide is stocked full of awesome things to do with the MRD, from programs indoor and outdoor, to the Field House and Outdoor Pool and the Community Rec. Center! It covers MRD services for April through July. The current Activity Guide is always available at

- Expanded Parking at the CRC for those needing closer parking.
In response to patron feedback, MRD will be added in 6 new parking spots next to the existing handicap parking that are designated for those needing closer parking. This will help the situation of all handicap parking being taken on a consistent basis, particularly in the mornings. These spots are reserved for those needing closer parking so please help the safety of those needing closer parking.

The Renovation of Holly Park is Fully Funded and Will Break Ground this Fall! We'll break ground this fall of 2019 and the project is scheduled for completion in mid 2020!
The City of Montrose and the Montrose Recreation District have teamed up again to enable this exciting project. Thanks to generous contributions by many local organizations: Montrose Rec. Foundation, Montrose Community Foundation, Valley Food Partnership, Montrose Rotary Club, River Valley Health, Green Mile, Montrose County School District, MRF Horsefly Tap Night on 5.29.18 and the Mize Family.
These local partnerships earned grants from Great Outdoors Colorado and the Department of Local Affairs, which has now fully funded this project!

From the City of Montrose: CONTRACTORS POUR FIRST STRETCH OF CONNECT INITIATIVE RECREATION TRAIL
Western Gravel Constructors has started to pour concrete at the northern end of the new Connect Initiative Recreation Trail. Concrete pours will continue to progress south towards the West Main trailhead where work has also started on excavation of the underpass crossing at the West Main Bridge. New Shade Structure at CRC Courts!
Doug Rood is at it again making Montrose pickleball even better! Doug headed up the project of constructing a permanent shade structure at the CRC pickleball courts. He designed the structure, ordered the parts, supplied tools and lined up other players to help build it. MRD paid for the structure and provided tools.Thanks to Sinny and James Richardson for delivering parts to the courts, providing tools and working on the installation. Craig Whipple, Lynn Bartling, Ron and Michele Courtney and Brent Culver all helped with construction.

This month, The Masters came from Korea to present Ed Ulibarri with a certificate of appreciation for his dedication to the martial arts.He was also given a promotion to 5th degree black belt. Ed teaches Korean Karate Tae Kwon Do Hapkido through MRD. Congratulations Ed and thanks for your many years of commitment to teaching the martial arts!

SUMMER SWIM LESSONS at the FIELD HOUSE AND CRC
Summer swim lesson classes will fill up fast! Don't miss out, Registration opens Monday, April 1st at 6:00 a.m..
SUP YOGA- Fee now included in daily admission
Classes will be held twice a month on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm. Class registration will happen through the Rec Center and space is limited to 10 per class! Classes we be held at the Rec Center's indoor pool facility, and we encourage participants to show up ready at the pool 10-minutes prior to class. SUP Yoga is for all skill levels and lessons will progress throughout the winter.
We will begin with learning the balance, getting acquainted with the SUP board, learning simple movement and yoga poses on the board. In later classes we will begin paddling on the board and end with yoga until the two are combined fluidly.

Beginning Thursday April 11th at 7:00pm, MRD will be offering CardioWave Floating Fitness classes in the pool on the new GlideFit boards. The floating fitness class will challenge participant's balance, endurance, and strength in a unique low-impact environment. CardioWave fitness classes will take place on alternating Thursdays April 11, 25, May 9, 23, June 13, 27, July 11, 25, August 8, and 22. The Thursdays in between will be dedicated to SUP Yoga. Participants can reserve a board for class after 6am on the day of class by calling the CRC or by visiting
http://montroserec.com/634/Stand-Up-Paddle-Board-SUP. Board reservations are recommended as there are only 11 boards available. Boards that have not been reserved will be available on a first come, first served basis at the start of class.
Please wear comfortable clothes that are meant to get wet. Regular swim suits are acceptable attire. If you'd like to layer up, we suggest wearing a rash guard. We also suggest to bring a change of clothes for after class, and a towel. Paddle boards, and paddles are provided.
Learn All The Skills Necessary To Become A Professional Lifeguard
This course teaches CPR, First Aid and all the rescue techniques. This class is offered to individuals 15 years and older. This will be a blended learning course with instruction both online, and in the pool. Students will be charged an additional $35 by the American Red Cross when enrolling for the online portion. Participant must be available to attend all in-person training sessions Required pre-test is a 300 meter swim (12 lengths), two minute water tread without hands and retrieving a ten pound brick from the bottom of the pool 9 feet or deeper.

MRD FitZone
Zumba® Kids Returns!!!
Do not let the summer pass you by without checking out Zumba® Kids in the Montrose CRC Fit Zone. This class is for children ages 7-13 and is offered every Saturday at noon in June. Do not miss the opportunity to have your kids join in on the fun. The class features kid-friendly routines built around Zumba® chorography and also includes engaging games and activities throughout the class. Kids also learn a little about the different nations the dance moves are drawn from. Parents or guardians do not need to be present and can use the opportunity to use the rest of the facility while their kids engage in fun physical activity in the amazing Fit Zone room. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend the last part of class to see what routines the kids have learned and they must also make sure to leave their contact information at the front desk before their children can participate. Come join the Zumba® Kids party!
Join MRD's New HIIT Class @ noon on Fridays
We are now offering a Week's End Circ-HIIT class in the Fit Zone. This end of your week circuit/HIIT class is 45-minutes of giving it all you've got, completely exhausting yourself, and leaving satisfied and ready to enjoy your weekend. You can head back to work after the 45-minute workout or stay for an optional 15-minute yoga-flow stretch at the end. Class is limited to the first 20 participants for participant safety and efficient class flow. Please sign up prior to class outside the Fit Zone. Class is on Fridays @ noon through July 26th and is included with admission to the CRC.
Second summer session of 3-Keys to Permanent Weight Control Program
Due to overwhelming popularity and sold out classes, Registered Dietician Hannah Freese will be offering another 3-Keys to Permanent Weight Control Program class in July. Join Hannah for a transformative 4-week weight loss program. She will guide you in a new way of eating that will teach you what to eat, what not to eat, and most importantly, when to eat. Participants will learn how to change their metabolism so they can burn excess body fat and turn it into calm, focused, and sustained energy. Registration is $220 for all 4 sessions. Sessions are from 7:00-8:30pm Wednesdays July 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st in the CRC Party Rooms. Registration is open now and participants who register before July 1st will receive a bonus challenge from Hannah to jumpstart their fat-burning potential. Tai Chi at the CRC?
We have had numerous requests that we offer a Tai Chi class at the CRC. We are currently investigating the feasibility of offering a class as part of our Fit Zone programming and would like your input. We currently only have 7am or 1pm class time openings in the Fit Zone schedule, or Monday nights at 5:45pm. If you are interested in Tai Chi and find any of these times favorable, please email Fitness Leader John Wagner

CHALLENGER SOCCER CAMP
Each camp will feature the 1000 Touches Curriculum, packed with drills and practices designed to improve individual control, footskills, fakes, moves and core techniques. The summer Tennis Program is designed to help youth develop and improve fundamentals of tennis through games and fun drills. Two levels of skill will be offered and three age groups (6-8), (9-10), and (11-17) . A limited number of free rackets are available for use during the lessons.
Novice:
This level is for youth that have never played or have had limited play. The fundamentals of tennis will be taught, including all strokes through use of drills and games.
Amateur:
This level is for youth that have completed one or more introductory classes or have already learned the fundamental strokes of tennis. Participants should already be able to maintain a short rally and hit the basic strokes.

Little Flower Hemp Company, Misty Mountain Hop Farm and Project 7 Water Authority Misty Mountain Hop Farm in Olathe is one of the largest in western Colorado. We will tour the farm and learn the process of growing and processing hops. Project 7 water authority provides drinking water to residents of Montrose. We will learn how they keep it safe. Little Flower Hemp company will educate us on hemp's numerous applications including body care and medicinal uses. Hemp has a maximum of 0.3% THC and is not psychoactive.

Our scenic river tour begins with instruction. Before launching, you will spend 30 minutes with professional instructors both on land and in the water learning the basics SUP, rafting or kyaking and river running skills. We proceed 5 miles downstream through calm water, deep canyons and exciting class II rapids. You can sit on the board through the rapids. Requirements for Paddle boarding: Must be able to stand or kneel for 2 hours. People under the age of 50 are welcome and encouraged to register!

Personal Training and Substitute Group Fitness Instructors
MRD is seeking personal trainers and group fitness instructors. Successful applicants will have a passion for helping clients achieve their goals. Responsibilities include conducting orientation and consultations with potential clients to determine client goals, health concerns and exercise preferences, developing and implementing an exercise plan for clients and help provide new member orientations to educate members how to property adjust and operate equipment. Must have personal trainer certification from a nationally accredited (NCCA or DETC) organization and First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications. Customer Service Representative
This part time position provides critical customer service to MRD patrons. Duties include, but are not limited to: completing program registration, computer and phone skills, and general multitasking. Youth Soccer and Baseball Officials
This is a part-time seasonal position that provides a critical competent of running our youth sports programs. Our officials receive free training and uniforms. Officials will referee games (4-14 years old). Pay is based on the level of each game officiated. Opportunities to officiate other sports throughout the year are also available to officials interested in officiating other sports. Custodial Attendant
This position is responsible for supporting the general operation of the new Montrose Community Recreation Center, specifically in our custodial department. Attendant will be responsible for overall cleanliness of facility. Shifts are available in the evenings, weekends and in the summer. Water Safety Instructors
This position is responsible for planning and implementing swim lessons according the American Red Cross standards. Instructors will be asked to provide both public and private swim lesson classes.
