Building Spiritual Muscle
8th Grade Confirmation Retreat
During last Saturday's confirmation retreat we talked about God's love. We reflected on how we often fail to respond to the awesome love of God. Just like we need physical muscle in every day life, we need spiritual muscle to live our faith. Often times, overcoming sin can feel like doing push ups. Seen here in this video, Grace Sampson, one of four high school student retreat leaders demonstrates how to do a difficult "diamond" push up.
What Path Will You Choose?
As our confirmation students grow older their faith will likely require them to make tough choices. The way of following Christ is paved with challenges. To illustrate this, students participated in a game where they were given two optional routes to take to the other side of the room. One route had no obstacles in the way...just a clear walk to the other side. The other one (the more challenging Christian way) involved spinning around 10 times, digging with your hands in apple sauce, and as you can see in the picture, Diego, one of our high school retreat leaders had to put on shaving cream and then dig through a container full of Cheetos and fish out an object with his mouth...to make it to the other side.
Choosing the Christian life is the most challenging thing that you can do and it's also the most rewarding thing that you can do. That was a main part of the message delivered by Bob Belman in his talk to our retreatants.

First-time chili judge Jennifer Hager hands Al Gahagan the award for "Hottest Chili" using his mother's recipe.
Expert judge Jeff Mason gives Nancy Gusse the award for "Most Unique Chili" using chicken and barley.
Master chili judge John Shelangouski Pizano bestows the "Best Overall Chili" prize to Nancy McKee for her no bean recipe.
The Old Speaker Comes Down
Workers used scaffolding this week to remove the old speaker from above the altar. We now have a totally unobstructed view of the most beautiful site in the Quad Cities!
McAnthony Window Thanksgiving Meal this Wednesday
Instead of our regular menu on Wednesday, Ann's going to cook some turkey breasts, mashed potatoes, and green beans. You are welcome to contribute a casserole or dessert. Some apple pie would be a great addition! If you want to contribute, please email John to let him know what you will be bringing. We would need your contribution by 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday!

Donate Christmas Fabric
We have some folks who would like to make Christmas ornaments for shut-ins and those in need. To do this, we need Christmas fabric. If you have any you wish to donate, please drop it off at the Parish Office.
JOKES THAT CAN BE TOLD IN CHURCH
A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17." The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."
