American Education Week 2018
Celebrating Lake Park educators, staff and Board members.

This month provides a number of special occasions to give thanks and demonstrate gratitude for members of Lake Park's school community. This  week  marked the annual recognition of American Education Week , which is designed to celebrate public  education  and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring every child receives a quality  education . Established by the National  Education  Association, this recognition has been celebrated for over nine decades. Thank you to Lake Park educators and staff members who contribute every day and are committed to teaching and learning.

Furthermore, this  week  provided an opportunity for Lake Park to thank our elected officials and provide recognition as "School Board Members Day" was celebrated statewide on  Thursday, November 15 . This annual designation was created to thank the nearly 6,000 elected school board members in Illinois and build a stronger relationship between school board members and the community. Special thanks to Lake Park's Board of Education members  for exemplary service, fiscal responsibility and student-centered decision making on behalf of District 108 taxpayers.

Finishing First Semester, Preparing for Second Semester
Important academic dates and deadlines for families to note.

The first semester of the 2018-19 school year will end with final exams on Thursday, December 20 and Friday, December 21 . More information about the exam schedule, bus transportation, and access to tutoring services will be sent to families in the coming weeks as well as published in the next LP Link edition.

In addition to finishing first semester strong, the Counseling Department is preparing students for second semester, which begins following winter break on January 7, 2019 . Families can expect that students will receive a printed copy of their second semester schedule during first period on Monday, November 26. If your student does not receive a copy, or bring the hard copy home, this information will also be accessible via the Home Access Center (HAC) following Thanksgiving break.

Please review this schedule and contact your student's counselor with any inaccuracies by Friday, November 30 . This date is significant, because it also aligns with the course level change request deadline for second semester. Students who excel in their current course level are encouraged to challenge themselves further by pursuing a level change up, while students who may be struggling should take advantage of the many academic interventions offered before requesting a level change down. Lake Park is committed to ensuring that your student is enrolled in the correct courses.

Equally as important as academics is the social-emotional well being of our Lancers. If you are concerned about your student's social-emotional well being, please contact your student's counselor as soon as possible or visit the SWaP website for valuable resources.
