Our Mission Is To Maintain And Strengthen The City's Diversity, Equity, And Accountability.

Greetings!
What a week! This week, the entire world collectively paused as we heard three guilty verdicts come down in the murder of George Floyd, and witnessed actual accountability for the killing of an unarmed Black man.
But let's be clear - this alone does not create justice, and this work does not begin or end with one trial.
The truth is, we are just at the beginning of repairing centuries of oppression. That work does not happen in one day, or one year, or even one lifetime - but it must continue. And it's on us to make sure that justice marches on.
Keep the faith and keep the fight,
- Capri Maddox
Executive Director,
Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department

Thursday, April 29th will mark 29 years since the LA Unrest of 1992 - and there has never been a more important year to reflect on the lessons of '92. Join LA Civil Rights as we convene city, faith and community leaders from the African American and Korean American communities to talk about inter-community peace building, inequities still facing LA's communities of color, and how we employ solidarity to build a city that empowers and includes everyone.
Join Mayor Garcetti, Korean Consul General Park, Councilmember John Lee, First AME Pastor J Edgar Boyd, Korean American Federation of LA Vice President Emile Mack, moderator Virgil Roberts and Human Relations Commissioner Melany De La Cruz-Viesca for this live conversation.

RECAP: Climate Justice Roundtable
|
In honor of Earth Day, LA Civil Rights joined a roundtable on the Future of Climate, Equity and Health hosted by the new LA City Climate Emergency Mobilization Office. We made it clear: Climate change is an equity issue. African American children in LA suffer from asthma at twice the rate of white children, and communities of color are the first to be impacted by a warming climate. We were honored to be part of this event and to fight for equity in climate justice.
