This Week in the Torah / Parashat Ha-Shavua
This week's parashat ha-shavua/Torah story, comes from the Book of Beresheit/Genesis, and is called Vayyetze. Learn more about it
here.
Snow Days Protocol Reminder
In the event of a weather-related closing:
- On Sundays, the decision to close Shorashim will be made by 7:00 am.
- On weekdays, Shorashim and Havurat Torah will be cancelled if either White Plains or Scarsdale public schools are closed. If those public schools are open but decide to cancel after-school activities, we will also cancel Shorashim and Havurat Torah.
We will relay this information to all our families by the following methods:
- There will be an outgoing voice message on the Education Department's School Closing Hotline, extension #158, (select extension after dialing the temple's main number).
- We will provide this information to Channel 12 news.
- An email will be sent to all our Shorashim and Havurat Torah families.
-
We will make every effort to post closings on the TIC website.
**Shorashim Calendar Change**
- There will not be a TIC community-wide Haggigat Hanukkah event on Sunday, December 2 as advertised in the Shorashim calendar that was included with the August mailing. There will be regular Shorashim learning as usual on that day.
The community Hanukkah Happening will be on December 5.

here to see revised Shorashim calendar
A Word from Lisa
Did you know that in Shorashim, our learners are introduced to a different Jewish value each month? In Hebrew these values are known as middot (literally something to measure oneself by). So far we have explored the middah of kavod/respect and the middah of simhah/happiness. Perhaps not surprisingly, the 'Middah of the Month' for November is hoda'ah/gratitude.
