Satyam. Shivam, Sundaram
Truth, Goodness (Godness), Beauty
Life is so simple and joyous! Lying in bed for a delicious moment before we jump out and dash into a rough, tough world, we do picture it as such. We might glimpse a moment of it now and again, but why isn’t it ideal and perfect each day and all the time?

Surely someone will come along and make a comment to me today-whether it is a statement, a direction, a request, a complaint or anything else. In whatever way it might have been meant by the speaker, a lot is frequently lost in the translation depending on where my mind takes me when I hear those words. In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, (1.4) it says Vrittaya svarupaya itaritara, meaning that most frequently we are caught up in the individual mind’s interpretations, and it takes us flitting here and there away from the truth. We may decide the statement was negative or implied as a put-down, when it was simply a statement. These are explanations made up by the mind in its current state of thinking and being. Only when the mind/mental stream becomes a solid, sure state without any doubts are we in the soul’s Self ( Atma) Only in this state of mind can we see what was really meant, because we are both connecting from/to the same Source, or the Divine. (Self in the Indian philosophy is the One and Only Universal Energy that is absolute, true and infinite. Deriving our energy from this Source, we too are infinite and forever beings.)
The truth is always true and absolute. It cannot and does not change with new input or with better understanding. Truth/Soul/Godness is Universal, Eternal and Infinite. Truth is true under all circumstances, in any place, at any time, and for all beings. If it is always true for everyone and there is just ONE TRUTH, not yours or mine; there is no separate me, no subject separate from an object. It is all ONE!

How then can we connect to the truth?
Be like a child without any preconceptions.
Be aware and awake to the moment. When the mind wonders, it attaches to the senses.
Observe the moment without judgment. If you have a thought it’s probably judgmental.
Be discriminating. Ask yourself if what you are thinking is really what the speaker said.
Wait before responding.
Finally, always come back to a meditative state of mind using mantra, focus, prayer, affirmation, or other meditation.
Namaste,

sipra

Current book:
Wherever You Go, There You Are” by Jon Kabat-Zinn
Mindfulness is taken from the Buddhist concept of being present in the present moment. It is not a religious practice. Learn to be in touch with yourself - your true self that is aware, conscious, and awake to the present moment. This is an ancient practice studied and practiced for thousands of years, Kabat-Zinn has demystified and simplified the process of mindfulness practice through this book full of short stories, incidents and practices that is ideal for the modern, busy Westerner with a busy, stressed life. We will read, discuss, analyze ourselves and practice mindfulness as meditation.

Also consider joining a Meditation Class at YWB.

Let's Help Each Other!
YWB is more than a yoga studio; it's a community. That's why we're happy to publicize our community needs. Let us know if there's anything you would like us to announce. This month we have one announcement.

YWB member Casey Snyder is collecting donations for Dayton tornado victims and working with lower income areas to try to help. A total of 15 tornadoes hit last Monday evening leaving Dayton and surrounding areas in shambles having the area declared a national disaster within 24 hours. This is her hometown and many of her family and friends were affected. She's accepting donations of supplies for daily needs such as water, food, diapers etc.; her Cash App is $CaseyLSnyder. If you'd interested in other ways to help, let us know and we'll put you in contact with her. Any help is appreciated and greatly needed.
Don't Forget!
  • Signing up for classes in advance (preferably three hours beforehand) helps both you and us. If we need to cancel a class due to extreme weather or the like, we can notify everyone who has signed up. In case you can't make it after registering, be sure to remove your name before the start time for a class so as not to get charged for it.
  • Check out our YWB Rewards Program. Referring a new student is worth 500 points. Get a $10 discount on any purchase after earning 1000 points.
  • Renew expired but unused classes by paying a Reactivation Fee of $15, and at the same time purchasing an additional membership of $60 or more.
  • Be sure to like and follow us on Facebook for regular updates and inspiration. Share the posts you have enjoyed. Tag @YWByoga and share pictures with YWB on Facebook and Instagram if you find something worthwhile and worth sharing.
  • If you have liked an instructor or style leave us a review on our website at YWByoga.com, Google, Facebook or Yelp. If you were not happy with your experience, contact us so we can remedy the situation.
  • If you have a medical constraint that prevents you from practicing yoga, or other justifiable excuse, please let us have a Doctor's Note (email sent from their official account), and we will suspend subscriptions to membership for as long as you need. Please let us know in advance or as soon as practical. If you wait till you come back to class it is too late to redeem expired classes without reactivation fee plus the purchase of new class packs.
  • Even if you're late for class, show up! No need for apologies! Doors will be locked after 10 minutes. If the door is locked please call 614.432.7553.
