Message from our Principals

Associate Principal Matt Peetz

Dear Parents,

As we wrap up the school year, we would like to take some time to reflect on what a great year we have had together. We all have learned a great deal and have shared experiences that will remain with us for years to come. We are so very proud of our students as we watch them grow academically and socially.

This year we say goodbye to both our second and third-grade students, as they head off to Prairie Ridge Intermediate School in the fall. We will miss them, and we wish them all the best!

We also want to express our sincere thanks as we say goodbye to several of our staff members. We wish Mrs. Hyzer the best as she takes a new path into retirement. We are grateful for her years of service to our elementary schools. We also want to thank Miss Douglas and Mrs. Lohr for their service at Westside Elementary School, as they will head off to Prairie Ridge Intermediate School to teach third grade next fall. Mr. Buros will be teaching kindergarten at Ironton-LaValle Elementary School next fall; Mr. Ott will head to Pineview Elementary School to teach music there; Mrs. Lahti will also head to Pineview Elementary School to teach art there. Ms. Bruun, Mrs. Mahoney, and Mrs. Belmares have all accepted teaching positions in nearby school districts for next fall. Last, but not least, Ms. Lumzy will be moving to the Minneapolis area to pursue a new adventure. We will miss all of these individuals greatly, and we are fortunate for having had the opportunity to work alongside them.

A special thanks to our parents who have contributed in ways small, large, and unimaginable! Thank you for getting your kids to school on time each day and for helping them in the learning process; the partnership between home and school is important.

In closing, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our students at Westside Elementary for a job well done! We wish you all a very happy, safe, and enjoyable summer.

Summer School 2019

Summer School is for students who are recommended by their classroom teachers, interventionists, and administration for continued support in math and reading. K-5 summer school will be located at Westside Elementary School this summer.

We believe in sustaining student learning throughout the year, so students retain educational growth during the summer. In addition to summer reading, we believe summer math work is also important in the battle to keep children learning at their maximum achievement levels.
