DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Fairy Garden Contest
Help bring magic and enchantment to the Yampa River Botanic Park this summer by participating in the annual Fairy Garden Contest. These tiny gardens offer children and adults a whimsical space to play and develop the imagination. The contest is open to children of all ages, but at least one builder must be under 12 years of age. All gardens are due no later than June 12.
Tennis Center Summer Camps
Beginning next week, the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs will be offering several unique summer camps for youth. The Tennis Center will host both a full-day and half-day camp for youth ages 6 to 15 years old. The camp takes place weekly Monday through Thursday, beginning June 10. A bi-weekly camp for children ages 3-5 years old will also be offered starting June 11.
Ladies Golf Swings Into Action
Ladies golf programs swing into action this week at Haymaker Golf Course. Start your week with casual, drop-in instruction, at the Monday night Women's Clinic from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. You can also participate in the 9-Hole or 18-Hole Women's Leagues. Leagues offer casual and fun play for women golfers of all ability levels. Call or visit the Golf Shop for additional details.
Master Plan Moves Forward
Over the past five months, a committee of community members, user groups, and city staff, has evaluated and identified areas of refinement within the new PROSTR Master Plan. On June 11, an initial draft will be presented to both the Parks & Recreation Commission and City Council during a joint work session. Anyone who is interested in learning more is encourage to attend.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Town Challenge-Marabou XC
The first Town Challenge race of the series kicks off Wednesday, June 5 at Marabou Ranch. Youth races will begin at 5:30 PM, with the adult races starting at 6:30 PM. Registration is available online until 11:30 PM TONIGHT, or onsite from 4:30 PM to 5:45 PM on race day. Stick around after the race for the post-race party, including complimentary beverages, food, and more!
Howelsen Hill Trail Run
The Steamboat Springs Running Series hosts the Howelsen Hill Trail Run on June 15. Participants can choose between an 8 mile or 4 mile course, both options offering spectacular views as you climb Howelsen Hill's singletrack trails. Register in advance either online, or at Twisted Trails on Friday, June 14 from 4 PM to 6 PM. You can also register at the race from 7 AM to 7:30 AM.
PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
Yampa River Botanic Park
Once a sprawling horse pasture, the six acre Yampa River Botanic Park is now home to more than 50 unique gardens and thousands of plant and animal species. An innovative experiment in private/public partnerships, the park sits on land donated to the city and employs city staff, but is managed by a volunteer association and board of directors who oversee operations.
