Duck Race tickets on sale; You could win $1,000 on 4th of July
We're getting our ducks in a row in preparation for the Duck Race!  $10 tickets are now on sale for the Boyne Chamber's 31st annual Duck Race at 2 p.m. on July 4th in the Boyne River. You can purchase tickets at the Chamber office, 115 S. Lake Street, and at Lynda's Real Estate Service, 27 S. Lake Street. Starting June 19th, you will also be able to  buy duck tickets at Evenings at the Gazebo concerts in Old City Park.
The Boyne City Fire Department will once again bring its hi-rise ladder truck to the Harbor House Publishers parking lot and will start the duck race with a big splash as they drop 1,200 rubber ducks from "way up high" into the Boyne River.
Hundreds of cheering spectators will be watching as the   ducks float down the river to the finish line behind Lynda's Real Estate. Each ticket and duck is numbered, and the lucky owner of the fastest duck will win $1,000. Second prize is $250, third prize $100, and 4th through 10th prizes are $50 each.
> Thanks to our raffle ticket sponsor, Marty Moody of Lynda's Real Estate Service. Marty's sage advice is: "Don't be a schmuck - Get your duck!" and he notes that duck racers shouldn't wait until July 4th to buy their tickets as only 1,200 tickets will be sold, and they could be sold out in advance.

4th of July Festival desperately needs volunteers and donations
Soapbox Derby
The Soapbox Derby is in danger of being cancelled if no one steps up to organize the event.
An open letter from the 4th of July Festival Committee:
Boyne City, we need your help! We've built something quite special over the years evolving from a small-town Fourth of July Festival to a nationally touted extravaganza recognized by Good Morning America, USA Today and the Travel Channel... but the festival does not run itself. We operate solely on volunteers and charitable donations. This year, we are facing a serious shortage of both! The beloved Soapbox Derby is in jeopardy of not happening this year if someone (or a group of individuals) doesn't step up to take the reins. We will train anyone who would take on this fun and unique festival event. We are also in desperate need of volunteers to walk in costume during the parade, work parade barricades and assist with handicapped parking. Our next meeting is Monday, June 10th at 7pm in the Boyne District Library lower level. All are welcome. Please share this with friends and email Jessica White,
jessicaboyneace@gmail.com, if you are interested in volunteering.
> ADOPT A FIREWORK! Donations may be sent to Boyne City 4th of July Committee, PO Box 407 Boyne City, MI 49712. Questions or more info: contact Liz Kroondyk at 231-675-5014 or kroon@charter.net. Adopt A Firework donation form. Sponsor opportunities.

BEST SEASON EVER CONTINUES
Boyne City girls shut out Tawas, advance to soccer regional final
Soccer champs
Rambler girls soccer team with their first-ever district trophy.
From the Petoskey News-Review: What a difference a year makes. At this time last season, Boyne City's girls soccer team was still suffering from a tough loss in the district final. But after avenging that loss to claim the program's first district title last week, the Ramblers checked off another program first by defeating Tawas 6-0 in the Division 3 regional semifinals on Tuesday in Clare.
The win sets up a rematch with No. 1 ranked Freeland in Thursday's regional championship at 7 p.m. back in Clare. The Ramblers, ranked 8th in the state, will perhaps face their toughest test of the season for a second time, when they face off against a Freeland team that defeated Ludington 2-0 in the first regional semifinal game on Tuesday, and also handed the Ramblers a 3-0 loss earlier this season.
It's been an amazing turnaround for the Rambler soccer program the past two seasons. The team went from the bottom of the Lake Michigan Conference just two years ago to back-to-back conference champions, first-time district champions and now playing for their first-ever regional title. Full story.

Chamber and City exploring "Log Cabin Volunteers" project
Log cabin
The Boyne Area Chamber and the City of Boyne City are working together to see if there is community interest in organizing a volunteer group to provide visitor information in the log cabin formerly occupied by the chamber. We're exploring the possibility of forming a Log Cabin Volunteers group that would provide staffing during prime times when visitors are in town - such as the 4th of July, Boyne Thunder, Friday night Stroll the Streets and Saturdays.
The Chamber of Commerce recently moved its office a block away from the aging log cabin, and the new office still offers member and visitor information and five-day-a-week staffing to serve members, visitors, and residents. But because the log cabin served as a visitor information center for many years in the past, the chamber and the city are working together to see if visitors might still be interested in stopping into the log cabin for information as they did in the past.
> If you are interested in volunteering at the log cabin for a few hours every week or two this summer, please email Lisa Luebke, lisa@boynechamber.com.

It's called "A Week at the Lake" - The Local Heroes Awards. The winner will receive a free week's vacation on Lake Charlevoix. The award is  created "to recognize and reward the unsung heroes of service and contribution in our communities." Watch a video about the awards programs.
We all know people in our community who always give and never ask.  They enjoy giving of themselves for others, improving lives, providing comfort, a reassuring hug or a smile. They are the "gold nuggets of good" in our area and while they are not motivated by thanks, they are certainly deserving of it.
This is a chance to do a little something to recognize and appreciate all that they've done.
Nominations are being accepted from June 1-30. Just send in a letter or email nominating a deserving candidate and telling their unique story of service, sacrifice or contribution. The finalists will be announced on July 5th at the Boyne City Stroll the Streets. There will be an opportunity for the community to "like their favorites" online until July 31. The winner will be announced Aug 2nd and rewarded with a much deserved "Week at
the Lake," featuring a beautiful Lake Charlevoix home with up to 10 friends and family, use of a high-performance Tritoon boat and all the fixings for a final night barbecue jamboree.

Come out to the Food Truck Rally on Thursday the 18th and watch them ride into Boyne City during a police-escorted ride by our very own Harley-riding police chief! Give them a wave if you see them on the road, or a handshake if you happen to see them around town!

"Honor system" Bike Share program continues this year
Bike Share The Boyne Bike Share program launched last year returns this spring and summer. Four bikes are parked on the north side of the Sunset Park Log Cabin at 28 S. Lake Street, and the concept is simple: "Borrow a bike and bring it back for others to enjoy." There is no checkout system, just the honor system, organizers say. They only ask that the bikes be returned each day and not kept overnight.  The bikes were donated by community members and service clubs, and they were refurbished by Mike Cortright of North Country Cycle Sport. Helmets are also available with the bikes.
Partners making this new program possible are: Boyne City Kiwanis, Boyne Valley Lions, Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce, Boyne City Main Street, City of Boyne City, and North Country Cycle Sport.
Raven Hill hosts Third Coast Conversation on June 15th
Raven Hill
With help from the Michigan Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities, Raven Hill Discovery Center is hosting a second "Third Coast Conversation" that will focus on water. The next Conversation is scheduled for June 15th from 4 to 5pm at Raven Hill and the community is invited. The informal talk will focus on water as our "place". The goal is to explore and talk reflectively, sharing different ideas about how this exceptional "place" lives in us - how our special "place" changes us and how we change/preserve our unique "place" through community issues. The big question is: what does it mean to be from our particular "place" - for you as an individual and for us as a community? What parts of our "place" make us what we are, and how can we change and preserve the features of this "place"?
An exhibit titled: Talking all things WATER will be on display from now through June 21st. Any environmental organization interested in displaying information about their mission is invited to create a small display. Call Cheri at 231.536.3369 or email info@miravenhill.org for more information on the Third Coast Conversations or on creating a panel display.
