When death comes, many westerners count on their teachers to assist them with prayers and practice, yet we may not have had a chance to talk with them about this. Perhaps we understand the process of transition, but not how and what the lama actually does, and what we can do for ourselves. Here is an opportunity to clarify our questions about the most profound experience of our lifetime, and to hear how other contemporary practitioners have successfully died "as professionals", in the words of Lama Tharchin Rinpoche. Lama Gyaltsen will  help us gain confidence as we approach the bridge we each will cross.
Lama Tsering Gyaltsen was born in Western Tibet where he studied dharma with his father, an accomplished Tröma Nagmo practitioner. In 1966, he was chosen by Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche to attend the Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies at the Sanskrit University in Varanasi, where he graduated with an Acharya degree. He completed a three-year retreat guided by Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche and Ripa Rigdzin Chögyal Rinpoche. In 1991, Lama founded the retreat center Tsogyal Gephel Jong in Yangleshö, Nepal. Later he stayed with Lama Tharchin Rinpoche for two years in the U.S. and now lives in Corvallis, OR. Lama Tharchin Rinpoche, Lama Sonam Tsering, and Lama Gyalsten founded Saraha Nyingma Institute in Eugene, OR. Lama Gyaltsen also founded the Padma Charitable Foundation to help the people of Tibet and Nepal. He has assisted numerous western practitioners during transition and is highly esteemed for his knowledge, kindness, compassion, and accessibility.
