"The Board of Education is pleased to share that we have selected a finalist for the position of Superintendent. The finalist stood out among a pool of highly qualified and promising applicants. Pending both a site visit to the finalist's district and contract negotiations, the Board plans to approve the Superintendent's contract at the June 25 meeting. The name of the new superintendent will be announced prior to the Board meeting, as will plans for introducing our new leader to the Alameda community.

AUSD Receives Top Marks for LGBTQ Policies and Programs

In its Safe and Supportive Schools Report Card published last month, Equality California Institute (ECI) ranked Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) as a top tier "Spotlight District" for its policies and practices regarding LGBTQ students. The rankings looks at districts' anti-bullying programs, inclusiveness towards LGBTQ students and staff, health ed and social science curricula, suicide prevention programs, and support of transgender and non-gender conforming students. Edison Second Graders Write Book on Life Skills

Students in Evelyn Chang's second grade class at Edison Elementary School have written and illustrated a book on life skills that is now available to purchase both at Books, Inc. in Alameda and online.

For the book, "Everything You Need to Succeed in Life," each student wrote about what a particular life skill means to them and shared an example of using that life skill. The students also created drawings and paintings to illustrate their life skill.

The students will be reading from their book this Thursday (June 6) at 6 pm at Books, Inc. in Alameda. All ages are welcome!
