Weak
We spend our whole lives trying to avoid being weak or even being perceived as weak. We cover up our shortcomings and pretend to have it all together. We control and mitigate everything to avoid persecutions, calamities or difficulties. We insulate ourselves physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially or socially in order to avoid any chance of being hurt or being moved outside of our comfort zone where we appear strong and put together. What happens when we do this is we end up also avoiding spaces where we have to truly rely on Christ, and we avoid living into the adventure of faith, into life truly in light of the Kingdom of Heaven. Paul found strength in weakness and that strength drove him to live a life that embraced persecution, that welcomed insults, that sought the glory of God above all else and found peace, encouragement, comfort, and contentment. Paul’s words in 1 & 2 Corinthians are more than a balm for those who feel weak but a call for us to realize our place in the Kingdom of Heaven, to realize God’s strength and to live into a life that is completely dependent on the providence, peace and position of our God.

Join us for this two-week series, as we discuss this idea of weakness throughout 1 & 2 Corinthians and how we might learn to embrace weakness that we might find our strength, not in our possessions, plans, or positions, but in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Operation Christmas Child
Collection Week ends Sunday
For the past 25 years (Samaritan's Purse) has been collecting shoeboxes filled with gifts and delivering them to children around the world. Each box is an opportunity for a boy or girl to experience the love of God in a tangible way and hear the Gospel. Many boys and girls who receive shoebox gifts also participate in our follow-up discipleship program, The Greatest Journey, which teaches them how to faithfully follow Christ and share Him with others. Will you prayerfully consider joining us in this exciting journey?

Changes to Giving Tree 2018
A couple months ago, Glad Williams and I found out that the South Kitsap Helpline was expanding its outreach to Seniors and Adults with Disabilities. Glad, who facilitates the Giving tree, and I met with Jennifer Hardison, Executive Director of South Kitsap Helpline to find out how our church could partner with Helpline in this new adventure.
So…..in addition to the list of families that Helpline has traditionally provided our church each year for Christmas gifts, we will now have 25 Seniors and Adults with Disabilities that our church will have the opportunity to bless with some holiday cheer and comfort this year. What do the wish lists of this new group of individuals we now have the opportunity to bless look like? A calendar, slippers and socks are some of the things that have been requested.

Purchasing a calendar or a pair of socks or slippers not feel like Christmas shopping to you? No worries. We will still have families with children who will be depending on you for a gift this year. Glad and I are thrilled that we are expanding the demographics our church can bless this year. Regardless of whether it is a child, or a senior or an individual with a disability that tugs at your heart strings, my hope is that you will find a tag on the tree in the church foyer beginning November 25 that you can touch with Christ’s love and a prayer this Christmas season. - Marianne Rajan
