Congratulations attorney volunteers!

Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham would like to salute all of the great attorneys who volunteered for more than 50 hours in 2016 or 2017. These volunteers were recently presented with a volunteer award at the Alabama Supreme Court by Chief Justice Lyn Stewart.
Click here for the full list of names.
Alabama does not require attorneys to complete Pro Bono service and these attorneys have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to serve our region’s low-income residents. They are a wonderful example to all attorneys and a reflection of our great legal community.

Breonna Garrett
is a recent graduate of Jones Law School and has been a frequent volunteer at the Domestic Relations Help Desk. When asked why she volunteers, Breonna said, “service has always been important to me, it is extremely rewarding and empowering. So when I saw the effects of poverty, domestic violence, and homelessness on those seeking legal assistance right here in Jefferson County and surrounding areas, I jumped at the opportunity to help.”
Thanks to volunteers like Breonna, 40 clients are able to receive help every week at the Domestic Relations Help Desk.

The Alabama Civil Justice Foundation (ACJF) has awarded Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham with a community redevelopment grant that will be used to help provide much needed legal assistance to low-income Veterans.
VLB currently helps over 400 Veterans per year with legal issues and the grant will enable VLB to expand these services.
