Seventeen seniors have earned the distinction of valedictorian for the Class of 2019, achieving a grade point average of 4.0 or greater and having taken a minimum of 12 honors, Advanced Placement or College Credit Plus courses over the four years.

Service Charity Cord Recipients
|
|
The Service Charity Cord, worn at Baccalaureate and Graduation, celebrates students who have completed 250+ hours of community service above the Sophomore Service requirement during their time at Bishop Watterson.
The Service Charity cords, first awarded in 2017, are light blue and white in honor of St. Teresa of Calcutta who was canonized during the 2016-17 school year.

Boys Volleyball Team is #2 Team in Ohio
|
|
The Bishop Watterson boys volleyball team advanced to the state final four by defeating St. Charles in the regional title game, 25-21, 25-21, 14-25, 20-25, 15-10. The Eagles then beat Kettering Alter 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23 in the state Division II semifinals. Walsh Jesuit won the title with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 win over the Eagles in the state championship match. What a great season!

Sophomore Makes State 100m Final

|
Sophomore Anna Kessler qualified for the state track & field championships in the 100 meters. She ran a great race and finished 9th in Ohio!

Bishop Brennan's First Visit to BWHS
|
|
Bishop Robert Brennan, installed as the 12th Bishop of the Diocese of Columbus in March, made his first trip to Bishop Watterson for Grandparents Day in April. He visited with students, staff and grandparents and presided at our Grandparents Day Mass.

National Business Honor Society Inducts 18
|
|
Our National Business Honor Society chapter inducted 18 new members for 2019. The Bishop Watterson NBHS Chapter, created in 2013, was the first in central Ohio and just the second in the state.

National Latin Exam Scholars
|
|
Bishop Watterson’s Latin students again performed extremely well on the National Latin Exam, with 75 percent earning awards. Among the gold medal winners, freshmen Tommy Marino and Evie Owens earned perfect papers.

Seniors Commit to College Athletic Teams

|
Eleven Bishop Watterson seniors committed to play college sports on the April 17 national signing day. The Class of 2019 now has 21 moving on to play college sports.

Spring 2019 ITS Inductees

|
Congratulations to the 16 spring inductees into the 2019 International Thespian Society (ITS). ITS is the world's largest honor society for theatre students. The designation "Thespian" includes members who excel in technical and production fields as well as performance in their high school theatre.

ITS recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement and celebrates the work of students in all aspects of theatre—performance and production.
Students earn an invitation to ITS membership on the basis of their achievements in the school’s theatre program.

The Addams Family Receives Four CAPA Marquee Nominations
Congratulations to our four nominees for the CAPA Marquee Awards: Best Supporting Actor--Kieran York, Backstage Excellence--Senior Production Team, Outstanding Technical Achievement/Lighting Design--Mandy Flanagan and Best Direction--Liz O'Dorisio. The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA), as a member of the Broadway League, has become an official Regional Awards Program of The Jimmy Awards/National High School Musical Theatre Awards. To be considered for participation in this first year of the CAPA Marquee Awards, schools had to submit an application and present a full-length musical from a list of Jimmy Awards-approved productions this spring.

Renzi Inducted to ASBDA
Congratulations to band director Mike Renzi for being inducted into the American School Band Directors Association. The Worthington Civic Band surprised him with this very prestigious award at the Spring Band Concert.

is a program of Thurber House, whose mission is to celebrate the written word and continue the legacy of humorist, author, cartoonist and Columbus native James Thurber. Jenna and Lucy have the option to read their work at the Columbus Arts Festival on June 8-9. Senior Designs Book Cover
Will Sullivan '19 recently designed the cover of a book written by his father, Mark, and published by Kendall Hunt. The book,
Thrive: When Trouble Visits
, is a guide to being your best when trouble visits, thriving when it matters most. Will designed the cover using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, which he learned in our graphic design class. Mark Sullivan is an organizational psychologist, executive coach and Ohio State University Fisher College of Business Distinguished Graduate Teaching Professor.

Senior Cookie Baker
Maddie Price '19 has been delighting many with treats for a while now through her Bumbles Bake Shop, with her cookies featured in Martha Stewart Weddings and in the Ohio Travel Guide. Bumbles Bake Shop will pause business while Maddie attends Kent State to study Entrepreneurship.
