First in Flight: Wright Brothers and the First Airplane
New Date: Thursday, June 20, 2019 / 6:30PM

Orville and Wilbur Wright built the first airplane in their Dayton bicycle shop.  The airplane flew only four times on December 17, 1903 and it never flew again, but what happened to the plane over the next 45 years is actually the most intriguing part of the story!  Come hear, historian, Joseph Oldenburg, give an interesting talk about the Wright Brothers.

No registration necessary.  Open to all.  No cost.

Fermented Foods - Healthy Traditions Network
Thursday, June 27, 6:30PM
Learn all about fermented vegetables and fruit, and the benefits of making your own. It's easy, fun and nutritious! You'll gain the confidence to repeat the process at home with other vegetables and fruit. The Nourishing Traditions Cookbook and other helpful fermentation cookbooks and tools will be available for purchase.

The Friends of the Springfield Township Library are sponsoring the kids and teens summer reading programs through the purchase of book prizes, treats and super fun family events.  The Friends are a nonprofit group that is open to any who would like to participate.  The next Friends meeting is July 9th at 1:00

Kids Summer Reading 2019 - Registration / June 10 - 29

Early Bird Registration is June 10 - June 12-  
Get a free book just for registering during this time!  

Encourage your kids to read over the summer by signing up for the Summer Reading program.  All kids who read or listen to 800 minutes by August 2nd will receive a free book and a certificate on August 9 at the Awards Party and Ice Cream social (11:00AM).  Kids not able to attend the Awards Party are still able to participate.  See staff for details.  READING LOGS DUE BY FRIDAY, AUGUST 2ND.

Summer Reading Blast Off Party

Drop in between noon and 3:00 for all kinds of fun activities for the kids!  The parking lot will be full of really cool vehicles kids can see up close.  There will also be crafts and delicious treats!  This is totally free and open to all.  No registration necessary.

Book Folding Craft for Middle and High School Ages

Come upcycle some books into really cool art!  We'll show you how to make a star shape out of folded book pages.  Register starting June 10th.
Teen Summer Reading Program - Online Registration
Starting June 10th
Go the Springfield Township Library website to register for the teen program starting June 10th.  Earn entries for prize drawings every time you read a book, complete a challenge or attend a library event!  www.springfield.lib.mi.us
Animals in Space
Tuesday, June 25 / 1:00

All ages welcome!  This live animal show will introduce us to some of the animal breeds that have traveled into space, including lizards, a tortoise, turtles, mice and more!  No registration necessary.  No cost.
Paper Rocket Project 
Tuesday, June 18 / 10:00AM session OR 1:00PM session
Ages 7 and up
Join us to build and decorate your own paper rocket.  When the rockets are complete, we'll head over to the ball fields to launch the rockets in a friendly competition to see whose rocket flies the highest.  Rockets will be build rain or shine, but the launch rain date is June 20 at 1:00!  Registration starts June 10th
Book Club
Join us for this fun and informal book club!  We meet the 4th Thursday of the month at 1:00. Pick up the book from the checkout desk, read it, and come share your impression.
