Church School at the Church of St. Michael and St. George
Bring Back the Boxes!
Please bring your filled gift box for Operation Christmas Child to church on Sunday, November 18, and leave it outside of St. George's Chapel. All boxes must be taken to a Samaritan's Purse drop-off location by Monday, November 19. If you are unable to bring the box to CSMSG on Sunday, you may take it to our neighbor, Central Presbyterian Church, 7770 Davis Drive, by noon on Monday or find the drop-off location closest to you by visiting Samaritan's Purse.
Church School Update
Here's what is going on in Church School this Sunday, November 18:

Fifth Grade Serves Breakfast at Gateway 180
This Sunday, November 18, fifth grade students are invited to serve breakfast at the shelter and distribute the Thanksgiving goodie bags they made during Church School. Student participants will meet on the playground at 6:30 am to carpool to the shelter. Breakfast is served at 7 am and students will return to church at 8:30 am. Parents are welcome, but not required, to attend. Casual attire is recommended. Please RSVP to Jane Fisher.

Preschool I and II
Preschool students continue to learn about the significance of water in the Bible through various stories. Over the past few weeks, students learned about Jesus turning water into wine and walking on water. This Sunday they learn about Jesus calming the sea and make a sailor's hat.

PreKindergarten
The past few Sundays, PreKindergarten students learned about various stories from the Bible, including the Wedding at Cana, Noah's Ark, and Moses parting the Red Sea. What do all of these stories have in common? How is water used in church? PreKindergarten students will perform a "baptism" using a doll, a bowl of water, and a shell.

Kindergarten
Kindergarten students learn about vestments, the garments worn by the people on the altar during a church service. What is a chasuble? An alb? A stole? A cassock? Who wears these garments?

First Grade
First grade students read the Bible story Jonah and the Whale and make a glitter whale page for their Bible binders.

Second Grade
Second grade students continue learning about the Old Testament with the story of David and Goliath and make another ornament for their Jesse Tree wreaths. Students make an edible slingshot for snack.

Third Grade
Third grade students continue learning about the New Testament, specifically the section of the Book of Matthew called the Beatitudes. How do we look for the good in a bad situation?

Fourth and Fifth Grades
Fourth and fifth grade students learn about the story of Naaman, who was a commander of the army of the King of Syria but also was a leper. A servant girl tells him about a prophet who can heal him. What happens to Naaman?
Annual Meeting Video
Every year during the CSMSG Annual Meeting, the fourth and fifth grade Church School students perform a skit. This year's skit will incorporate a video featuring students from all of the Church School classes. Thank you to all the Church School teachers and students who helped with the video last Sunday. You did a wonderful job reciting Bible verses for the camera. Amy Zimmerman and Sam Archie will visit classrooms again this Sunday, November 18, to continue the project. Hopefully we will add some new cast members to our video. If you are a teacher, please note that your class may briefly be disrupted for this project. Parents, if your child is either eager to participate or prefers not to be part of the video, please email Amy Zimmerman.
Mark Your Calendars
Advent Family Night
Join us Sunday, December 7, from 5 to 7 pm for Advent Family Night. This kickoff to the Advent season includes dinner and crafts. Make an Advent wreath to take home so you may light a candle each Sunday as we wait for the birth of Jesus.

Breakfast with St. Nicholas
Join us Sunday, December 9, after the 9:15 am service for Breakfast with St. Nicholas in the Great Hall. Members of CSMSG Youth Ministry will serve breakfast while attendees make crafts and hear the true story of St. Nicholas from the man himself. Remember to leave your shoe in the hallway outside the Great Hall to receive a special treat.
Register for Church School Online
Register your children for Church School for the 2018-19 school year online using the link below.
Please complete the form with your child's name and parent contact information. You will need to complete the form for each child enrolling in Church School. Click ADD to register additional children.

Does Your Child Have Allergies?
Food is an important part of our Church School curriculum. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies. Children in preschool through first grade made name tags with parent contact information. You may write your child's allergies on his or her name tag so all teachers and high school assistants may readily see this information. Additionally, we will include this information in the class buckets. Please email Jane Fisher with information about your chid's food allergies.
