As a member of the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce, we ask that you consider the below request from the Arctic Winter Games 2022 Bid Committee.

The 2022 Arctic Winter Games (AWG2022) Bid Committee seeks community support for Grande Prairie's bid to host the 2022 Games.  AWG2022 will be big; over 3000 athletes, coaches, officials, performers, and VIPs from nine countries/regions will come to Northern Alberta to compete in 19 sports and celebrate the unique cultures of the north.  Grande Prairie is competing with our northern neighbour, Fort McMurray, to host the 2022 games and we are trying to rally the community to support our bid.

To supplement Grande Prairie's bid package and to show the support within the community to host the games the AWG Committee is seeking letters of support  from organizations, businesses and groups within the Grande Prairie region.

The deadline to submit the bid package is the end of this month. Therefore, it is requested that letters of support be received by November 20th.

Attached is a sample letter for your reference addressed to the President of the AWG. Feel free to personalize as you see fit.

Please return the letter of support back to   [email protected]  as the Committee will include the letter in the bid package. We ask that you not forward directly to Mr. Flynn.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and assistance.

You are also encouraged to like and share the Facebook page at

Should you wish for any further information on the bid for the 2022 Arctic Winter Games, please feel free to contact Katie Bibendorf at   [email protected].

Formerly known as Peace Country Idol, Peace Country Rising Stars will be having its first annual show, at GPRC Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre. This event is a talent show, which will encourage individuals in and around the community to showcase their unique abilities on November 24, 2018. The students of the GPRC Marketing Project Management class of 2018 have worked exceptionally hard to create an event by adding new dynamics. In a technological world, moving towards an online approach was important to the class in the hopes of streamlining this event in every way possible. They are also giving it a breath of fresh air, with new faces and a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

Where: GPRC Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre.
Date: Saturday November 24, 2018
Time: Doors open at 6 pm, ceremonial ribbon cutting at 6:45 pm & show starts at 7 pm
Buy tickets at: Revolution Place or at the door

Prizes:
1st place: $1000.00
2nd place: $500.00
3rd place: $250.00

"This is an exciting project for the students. They have created and designed the event, and they are motivated and energized to put on the first Peace Country Rising Stars Talent Show. This class gives the students "hands on" experience with what it is like to run a business, including idea creation, team building, problem solving, marketing, budgeting, production and more. "

A survey conducted by Kids Help Phone found that fifty per cent of teens who said that they have engaged in bullying behaviour also report that they get bullied. Bullying affects kids, teens, and young adults in communities across Canada. Mucho Burrito, Canada's leading fast-casual Mexican restaurant, is holding its sixth annual Grab Bullying By The Horns fundraising campaign until November 30, 2018. One-hundred per cent of the proceeds raised by Mucho Burrito will go towards Kids Help Phone's bullying and cyberbullying awareness initiatives and to provide support and resources to young people affected by bullying.

Over the past five years Mucho Burrito has raised more than $186,000 for Kids Help Phone. This year they are calling on the generous support of their guests and vendors to help reach their 2018 fundraising goal of $60,000. To support Grab Bullying By The Horns, Mucho Burrito locations in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Quebec will invite guests to donate $2.00 at the point of sale until November 30. In exchange, guests will receive a coupon for FREE Chips and Salsa to use on their next visit.

On Friday, November 30, Mucho Burrito locations in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Quebec will step up their fundraising effort, supporting bullying awareness one burrito at a time. On this day, $1 from every burrito sold will be donated to Kids Help Phone in support of their services for young people across Canada.
