Scholarship announcements Kennedy-King Transfer Scholarship The Kennedy-King Memorial College Scholarship Fund offers multiple $10,000 scholarships each year to minority transfer students in the Contra Costa Community College District. For more information about the scholarship, including specific eligibility criteria, visit Kennedy-King Memorial College Scholarship Fund . Applications must be submitted to the DVC Scholarship Office by February 8, 2019. For assistance with the application process, stop by the DVC Scholarship Office on the 1st floor of the Student Services Center or call 925-969-2094 to schedule an appointment. Apply for DVC Scholarships! The online DVC scholarship application is now open! Students may apply for all DVC scholarships with a single application. Awards range from $500 to $5,000 for continuing and transferring DVC students. Applications must be submitted by February 14, 2019. Counseling announcements Get ready for spring 2019 Not sure what classes to take for spring 19? Wondering if you are on the right path toward your goal? Right path in LIFE? Look no further COUNSELING SERVICES ARE HERE!  Time is flying even faster now that we are on a condensed 16-week semester, so set up an appointment with a counselor to plan for the upcoming spring term. When you make an education plan with a counselor, you create a road map of classes to take each semester. This roadmap prevents you from taking unnecessary courses and can help you save time and money! IGETC update New! Remember if you are using the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) and hoping to earn an Associate Degree for Transfer (either an AA-T or AS-T), you must complete IGETC’s Area 1C: Oral Communication. Make a counseling appointment Schedule an appointment online or at the front desk of Counseling Services in the Student Services Building. New counseling appointments are released every Monday, so go online or drop by to make an appointment! New placement process coming next fall If you have not yet taken English or math at DVC, you need to know that we are changing the placement requirements for these core classes beginning fall 2019. If you are planning to take your first English and/or math class at DVC this spring, you should first talk to a counselor to see how this change may impact your educational plan. You may no longer be required to take the class that you were originally placed in to. As we prepare for this change, the college is offering very few sections of non-transferable English and math courses this spring. For more information, visit  THE RIGHT PLACE TO START .

Smoke Free DVC Diablo Valley College is now a Tobacco-Free Institution DVC is committed to promoting the good health of our students, staff and broader community by providing a healthy environment in which to learn and work. Given the negative health impacts of tobacco and similar product use, the Governing Board has established policy (GBP #2045) designating DVC as a tobacco-free institution. Therefore:  Smoking, smoking substitutes, smoke inducing devices and vaping are considered a health hazard and are prohibited on all college property. This includes, but is not limited to, products containing tobacco or nicotine, e-cigarettes, cigars, clove cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, snuff, chew packets, hookah smoking, personal vaporizers/electronic smoking devices, marijuana and controlled substances regulated under federal law.  This policy shall apply to all students, employees, volunteers, vendors, consultants, agents, contractors, and visitors on Diablo Valley College property as defined above. Consistent with Government Code 7597.1, the Governing Board has imposed fines and set enforcement standards for DVC in order to ensure a tobacco-free environment. CalWORKs  announcements Are you a parent? If so, did you know you can receive county assistance to attend school? County assistance includes money for your household, food stamps, medical coverage, vouchers to pay for your books, parking, educational supplies, and free child care while you go to school. Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound seeks paid tutors for the fall and spring We are seeking tutors to help middle and high school students at local schools. Tutors must travel to school sites. Upward Bound needs tutors for math, science, and Spanish for 4-7 hours a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2:45-5pm, and Wednesdays from 2-4:30pm. Educational Talent Search needs tutors for 9-12 hours a week, Monday through Thursday between 8:30am and 5pm. In class tutors needed for English and math between 8:30am to 2pm, and after school tutors needed for math, science, Spanish, and history between 2-5pm. Assessment Center announcements Assessment is one of the most important steps in the enrollment process. In addition to traditional assessments, DVC offers an online placement tool for students that graduated high school after 2007. This tool is used to determine your placement in English and math based on your high school courses, grades, and GPA. Learn more by visiting the Assessment Center . Assessments are offered on a regular basis, and appointments can be made  online  or in the  Assessment Center .

DVC Connect Card Do you have your DVC ID and ASDVC discount sticker? Go to the Student Union to get both. The library also provides black and white ID cards, and the Book Store sells the discount sticker for $10, so you can get five percent off of your purchases there. Marijuana policy at DVC Recreational marijuana is legal in California, but it is still prohibited on all Contra Costa Community College District property, colleges and campuses.

Policy on skateboarding, skating, and bicycling on campus In accordance with V.C. 21113(f), the use of bicycles, motorized bicycles, electric bicycles, skateboards, electrically motorized boards, and roller skates on the DVC campus is strictly prohibited.
