Last Thursday CentroNía hosted its second annual Cooking Competition. We brought together children, families, and staff to enjoy a series of delicious dishes prepared by four volunteer parents and staff who showcased their culinary skills to the CentroNía community.

Town Hall Meeting about Safety in our Community
CentroNía will host a town hall meeting on June 13, 2019 at 5:30 PM in La Plaza (1420 Columbia Road, NW) for families, staff and neighbors in our community. The discussion will focus primarily on promoting safety in our neighborhood in response to the recent crime and violence. Representatives from the Metropolitan Police Dept. will be in attendance as well as a number of area organizations such as Martha's Table, LAYC, Jubilee Housing, Barbara Chambers, and Bell.

Artist Residency Opportunity at CentroNía!
With the help of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, CentroNía is offering an opportunity for up to three artists to create artwork about immigration and the immigrant experience at CentroNía's early childhood education center in the heart of Columbia Heights. Apply for the residency between May 20 and June 20, 2019!

In this two-hour, 2-session workshop led entirely in Spanish, author/teacher Naomi Ayala leads parents and their children in activities they can do together as a family to foster the development of writing skills and figurative thinking, show appreciation for one another, develop a positive sense of self, and learn to channel emotions.

Interested in learning about the home buying process in DC? Come join us the last Thursday of each month and take the first step towards achieving your dreams.

Last week CentroNía’s Pre-K early learners welcomed 6th and 7th grade student volunteers from  Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation's Capital into their classrooms. The students brought stories and games they created in their Spanish class to share with our Pre-K early learners. After reading and playing games, everyone ventured to the rooftop playground to play together.
