On Thanksgiving, we all take time to give thanks for the good in our lives, or we at least get to eat tons of turkey and watch parades and football! At Wellesley Books, we'd like to take the time to thank the authors and publishers for putting out such terrific titles every year -- just look at those new page-turners below this introduction. Most of all, we want to thank you, our customers. You make every day exciting and new, and we love helping you find the perfect book, whether it's for yourself or to give as a gift. We want to thank everyone who attended one of our exciting events this year (there are still a few more!) We truly appreciate your enthusiasm and excitement. It always brings a smile to our faces and warms our hearts, so, thank you so much. Now, bring on the turkey and football!
Wellesley Books will be open from 9:00 AM till 6:00 PM on Wednesday, Nov. 21st. We shall be closed on Thanksgiving.

The beauty of this new novel is that you can "do" marriage counseling by eavesdropping. Sandy is working to help Gretchen and Steve repair their broken marriage, and it's fun to listen in on their process week after week. Screenwriter Osborn has given us perfect dialogue as he takes us through the nuances of saying what we mean. And while your marriage may not look like the one on display here, I'll bet you'll learn a thing or two to tune up the relationship you're in. This is a book that seems light, perhaps, but one that resonates.
Tana French's new novel is her best in many years -- possibly her most powerful novel ever. Using familiar murder mystery tropes, French brings us a brutally existential examination of identity, memory, and the value of a human life. This isn't to say it isn't suspenseful -- I devoured the final 200 pages in a single night -- but it is SO much more than a page turner. This one will sear your brain and make you think for days after you turn the last page.
In 1986, a massive fire at the Los Angeles Public Library was obscured in the national media by the concurrent Chernobyl disaster. Orlean uses the fire as a springboard to spin portraits of a variety of fascinating personalities and extended discourses on such unrelated topics as the birth of the city of Los Angeles and the difficulties of arson investigation. Her reassuring message throughout the book is that libraries are thriving despite (or maybe because of) the dual pressures of the digital age and the rise in homelessness. A current librarian quotes Albert Schweitzer and this important message "All true living takes place face to face." Highly recommended!
Maurice Swift wants to be a famous writer. But to what lengths will this charlatan go to achieve this role? With an appearance by Gore Vidal as well as references to other bookish figures and publishers, this is a clever and engaging literary thriller from the author of
The Heart's Invisible Furies.

Rachael Recommends: Inkling by Ken Oppel
Ke
nneth Oppel's enchanting middle grade novel explores what would happen if an ink splot in a cartoonist's notebook magically came to life. Chaos ensues (of course), but for Ethan Rylance and his family the titular Inkling might be just what they need to get back on their feet in the wake of a devastating loss. Not only is Oppel's latest novel heart-warming, it's also a touching look at how grief can affect people in different ways. Paired with Sydney Smith's wonderful illustrations, this story is perfect for fans of Inkheart (Cornelia Funke) and The Care and Feeding of a Pet Black Hole (Michelle Cuevas).
