STRONG, SMART, AND BOLD IN ACTION
Teens "See the Light"
Our teens celebrated Women In Photonics Week with a field trip to visit the UCSB Photonics Society. Photonics is the science and technology of generating, controlling, and detecting photons (particles of light.) Our teens loved being on campus and interacting with other STEMinists.
Plant Powered
In our STRONG class, Plant Powered, girls learn how food fuels their bodies and how different foods affect their bodies in different ways. With class recipes using ingredients derived from plants, girls are learning the similarities and differences between plant-based diets.
Staff Spotlight: Maria
Maria is the Kinderfun Lead Facilitator at the Santa Barbara Center. She has the innate ability to see the group as a whole, and each child as an individual. She is patient, kind, creative, and she supports the girls speaking up for themselves. We are thankful to Maria for providing a positive, safe, and nurturing space for girls.
Emergency Operations Planning Earns National Girls Inc. Award
Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara received the Girls Inc. National 2019 Outstanding Community Leadership Award for our work to revise our emergency operations plan. We have been working with community stakeholders since 2018 to improve our overall emergency readiness, including our procedures, training, supplies and communication. The award was presented at the 2019 Girls Inc. National Conference in Texas in October.
