ACT's Theory of Change Research Report
You might remember hearing that ACT was working on a Theory of Change process.  Our final research report is now available highlighting our process, the biggest challenges facing Sacramento, and ACT's vision and role in continuing to build a healthy, just, and equitable community.   You can read it here.
West Arden Arcade Community Meeting

Arden Arcade residents and ACT's Environmental Justice committee attended a community meeting to share their concerns with the County regarding housing and their vision for engaging their neighbors to be civically involved.

People learned about SB1000 and the role of the county  to ensure the Arden Arcade community is part of the planning process to create the Environmental Justice element for the County General Plan.

Congratulations to Pastor Les Simmons!
On Sunday, November 11 Bishop Esley Simmons handed off the Senior Pastoral leadership of South Sacramento Christian Center to his son, Pastor Les Simmons. Pastor Les is also a member of the ACT Board. Over 600 congregation members, faith leaders, public officials, and families attended the installation service with many reflecting on the powerful presence at the church. Guest Pastor MaKau from Fiji came to deliver a powerful sermon on the significance of a proper transition from Senior Leadership to the next in line. We are honored to celebrate Pastor Les Simmons and Katrina Simmons as they lead South Sacramento Christian Center into the next 30 years of service and beyond.

Congratulations from the entire Sacramento ACT organization!

Court Upholds DACA

"We are extremely happy the Court has sided with 800,000 immigrant youth protected by DACA. We continue to fight for a permanent solution that can protect families from being torn apart, but until we do, DACA must be allowed to remain. The program has been good for young people, good for our communities, and good for the nation. President Trump must cease his attempts to end the program and allow young people to continue thriving until a fair and humane immigration reform is passed."
What is "Public Charge"?
In a proposed  new rule, known as "public charge"-- striking in scope and rooted in a history of xenophobia and racism -- the administration announced that immigrants who utilize virtually all public benefits risk jeopardizing their ability to stay in the country.  If adopted the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will take into account a number of additional factors in considering applications for immigration visas (like work visas or family-based visas) or green cards (permanent residency).

The proposed rule is unprecedented in the history of the country. The Migration Policy Institute predicts millions of immigrants could be affected.  Also, by including programs like Medicaid and food stamps, which are much wider in scope, it would more likely hit working people - the majority of people on Medicaid are themselves employed, and almost 80 percent live in families with at least one working member.  Read more here.
