Orientation Week

Orientation Week is finally here! New students -  September 3-9 is O-Week and it's sure to be an amazing week. All new students are welcome to join us today for a free BBQ at 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. All new students and their families are welcome.

You can see the Ask Dean Joe on Facebook Live video on the King's Facebook page. Dean Joe Henry and his guests answered questions about O-week from students during the live recording.


If you have any upcoming events, please send a short blurb along with an image to Communications. We will try and feature it in Things@King's and will place it into the Events Calendar.

Everything You Need to Know About Move-in Day

Today is move-in day! It's a busy day filled with fun activities to make you feel at home. Move-in day starts at 9 a.m., with parent orientation at 1 p.m. and welcome activities starting at 2 p.m.

Mature Student Programming

Mature Student Mentorship Program:  Are you a new student over the age of 25? Would you like to connect with a current mature, experienced, upper-year student? Mature Student Mentors are available to offer guidance and advice throughout the year. For more information, please email mature.student@kings.uwo.ca.
 
Mature and Transfer Student Orientation: Join us on September 5, 2018 for a unique orientation session geared specifically to our incoming Mature and Transfer students. The day will include: breakfast, Faculty Information Sessions, lunch, Learning Skills presentations, and IT support to assist you with OWL, your UWO email, and other technology.
Interdisciplinary Studies Meet and Greet

Get to know your department, faculty and fellow students! The department of Interdisciplinary programs is hosting a meet and greet as well as an information session.

The programs that make up the Department of Interdisciplinary Programs are:
  • Childhood and Social Institutions
  • Disability Studies
  • Social Justice and Peace Studies
  • Thanatology

First Day of Classes and Shuttle Service Returns

The first day of classes is on September 6. We can't wait to have students back on campus!

The King's/Brescia shuttle bus resumes on September 6. You can find the shuttle schedule on the shuttle website

Walk-in Services

Student Affairs offers walk-in services in Wemple 151:
  • Accessibility and Personal Counselling Monday to Friday 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Career Counselling Wednesdays
    1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Help Needed for the St. Joseph's Hospitality Centre

Donations of healthy snacks, baked goods (store bought or home baked), sandwiches, cheese, and fruit are needed and can be dropped off September 7 in W139. The coffee house will take place on September 8. Volunteers would be appreciated between
5-9 p.m.

O-Serves Car Wash

The King's Soph Team invites you to our annual O-Serves charity car wash on September 8 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. in P1 (the Wemple/Alumni Court parking lot). The money raised from the event will go to Shinerama, Western's longtime partner, supporting those living with cystic fibrosis.
 
We hope to see you all September 8. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for making King's the amazing place it is.

King's PRO-AM

King's is hosting its second PRO-AM at the Highland Country Club, in conjunction with the Freedom 55 Financial Championship, the conclusion of the MacKenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada. The itinerary for our day will start with a great lunch, scramble format, then a fantastic dinner and silent auction. Each foursome will be paired with a pro who will be participating in the Championship.

Student Council is hosting its annual Welcome Back Week. From free ice cream, to coffeehouse to a carnival - a good time will be had by all.

International Work Experience

The International Work Experience (I.W.E.) Program offers an opportunity for International students to work part-time on campus in jobs that accommodate their studies. The objectives of the I.W.E. Program are: to offer students training and experience that will assist them in further studies and their eventual entrance into the workforce, to provide an opportunity to contribute to the well-being and success of King's as well as to provide some source of earnings for International Students.
Applications are open now until September 21.

Development and Peace Group

Interested in learning more about social justice and how we can be agents of change in the world? Interested in having meaningful conversations with like-minded people and build community? Consider joining King's Development and Peace group! We meet once a week (TBA based upon students availability) to chat, reflect and develop a plan to make a difference.

Audition for King's Chamber Choir!

Do you love to sing? The award-winning King's University College Chamber Choir is holding auditions for all voice types this September. The choir will perform two concerts and at special events at the College. Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings. The Write Place is Hiring!

If you are: 
  • a King's student
  • in year 2, 3, or 4
  • eligible for work study, first in family, or international work experience funding

With:

  • strong writing skills in English or French
  • an interest in helping students
  • a willingness to be trained in tutoring techniques

Learn about Global Networks for Justice and go to Italy

SJPS 3211G: Global Networks for Justice, Migration, Borders, Violence and Peace
January - May 2019
This Social Justice and Peace Studies course examines the explosion of migration that is occurring around the world, focusing on migration from North, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East to Europe. We will look at recipient states' reactions to migrants.
Students will also receive one credit in Italian Language.
