Parent Resources and Schedule Reminder
Here are some great resources for you to read when talking with your children about the coronavirus. Changes to a child's routine can be scary and worrisome.
Remember, children crave consistency, so creating a schedule for your children will help them to stay on track! Look back at the March 16 Daily Dose of Preschool for more information!
Circle Time Song of the Day
Gotta Shake My Sillies Out
Gotta shake, shake, shake my sillies out.
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out.
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out and wiggle my waggles away.

Repeat with:
Clap my crazies out
Jump my jiggles out
Yawn my sleepies out

Fine Motor Activities
  • Cotton Balls: Use tongs, tweezers or kid chopsticks (held together by a rubber band at one end) to move cotton balls from one bowl to the next. Ready for an extension? Have your child color the cotton balls and then use the tool to sort them into different containers by color.
Center Time / Table Top Activities
  • Dramatic Play:  You may have old costumes or kitchen items to use for dramatic play. Beyond this, consider utilizing cardboard boxes and recyclables to build, create, and play with scenery. Utilize tape, scissors, markers, stickers, and other craft materials to add more skill building to the process.
Art / Science / Cooking
  • Making Ice Cream in a Bag: For this activity, you will need sandwich bags, salt, sugar, and milk or cream. You can even use almond milk if you would like! Take a sandwich sized bag and fill it with ½ cup cream or milk and 2 tbsp of sugar. Seal it very tightly. Place that bag inside another sandwich bag (double bagging). Put that double bagged mixture inside a gallon bag. Fill the gallon bag with lots and lots of ice. Then add more ice. Add ¼ cup salt to the ice. Seal it up. Here is the fun part! You need to shake this bag and shake it well. Put on some music and shake the bag around for 8-10 minutes. When you are doing shaking, carefully remove the inner most bag (be super careful not to get any of the ice/salt water into the bag). Inside that bag is your ice cream, kind of a soft serve consistency. You could also try it with some chocolate syrup instead of sugar.
  • Painting with Cars: For this activity, you will need washable paint, toy cars, paper, and tape. Start by taping paper to the table and put a small line of paint at the starting line. To paint, pull the cars back and watch them drive across the paper leaving a trail of paint behind. To extend this activity, put the paper onto a slide or makeshift ramp outside to watch the cars fly!
Gross Motor Play
  • Dance Party: Throw on some of your favorite tunes and let loose with your little one! Freeze dance is always a wonderful way to practice impulse control and develop body awareness. You can also engage in instructional dances like the Hokey Pokey, Cha Cha Slide, Simon Says, etc.
  • Hopscotch: Use painters tape to tape a hopscotch board on your floor (or chalk on the sidewalk).
Outdoor Time
  • Chalk Maze: Draw out a set of chalk roads on the sidewalk. Add a parking lot in the center, where you can park toy cars, trucks, or dolls.
  • Nature I-Spy: Go for a walk around the yard and look for items in nature. Pick up items that are a mix of sizes, shapes, and colors. For example, pine cones, leaves of different shapes and sizes, sticks, rocks, flowers, etc. Place them all together on a plate or tray. Then, you can take turns saying, "I-Spy" and trying to find which item each of you are saying. Samples include, "I-Spy something that's wood" or "I-Spy a flower".
