Sunday Worship at Epiphany...
9:00 am Sunday School
10:00 am - Worship
A WEEKLY CONVERSATION WITH THE PASTOR

I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.  Psalm 146:2

Playing music and singing to God is a central part of our worship at Epiphany.  I have enjoyed lifting up my voice and singing with you each Sunday!  One of the three priorities for ministry is PLANNING DYNAMIC WORSHIP.  I wanted to let you know that I have been working closely with our Music Director, Hannah Blalock, and our Office Administrator, Sarah Nuckles, to plan our worship and arrange the bulletin.

Part of Epiphany's plan of succession in managing the transition of the interim was to move from two Sunday worship services (8am and 10:30am) to one 10am worship service.  The Mission Council continues to listen to comments that many who attended the early service miss worshipping at the earlier time.  Others have commented that the 10am worship service is more traditional and miss the contemporary approach that the later service provided.  Recently, we began to explore planning a "blended" worship service that attempts to use some different instruments (bongo drum and guitar with the piano), along with making small changes to the liturgy to provide a worship experience that blends the traditional with a contemporary expression.  We are also just beginning to schedule some of our young adults and youth as lay communion assistants.

Our Sunday morning worship is an important time when we gather as a church family.  It is also the place and time that visitors first encounter our ministry. The Mission Council and Music Team continue to discuss the best time and format for Epiphany's worship as it takes into consideration the different feelings that people have.  The reason for having one worship service at 10am is that it brings our church family together and allows us to experience our oneness and unity as it works through this time of interim.  Mission Council will continue to carefully consider the different preferences and feelings people have about our worship service. You are encouraged to speak with members Mission Council to voice your concerns.  Pray for those of us planning worship at Epiphany, that we make Spirit-led decisions that strengthen and build up the Body of Christ!

See you in church!
Pastor Gillikin

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS IN ADVENT - Each Wednesday night in Advent beginning November 28 we will gather for a meal at 6pm and an Advent Reflection time 7:00-7:30pm.   There will be a light meal drink, and dessert.   Margaret Gillikin is coordinating the meal with the help of others.   A sign-up sheet is posted in the gathering area.
ADVENT REFLECTION ON WEDNESDAYS - There will be a time of reflection each Wednesday during Advent, 7-7:30pm in the worship space, that will include a contemplative prayer liturgy called "Advent Intentionally" (from resource www.waytolead.org) that can be taken home to use on a daily basis.  Each week we will take a moment to focus on a part of Mary's Song (the Magnificat), gleaning some insights from Martin Luther's commentary and Johann Sabastian Bach's musical composition.  Our reflection will be short and thought provoking.  All ages are welcome!
COME JOIN THE CHOIR AND MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE.

Epiphany's Choir needs your voice.  Our choir is an essential part of worship each Sunday!  Come sing with us at practice after Worship each Sunday in the choir loft.   If you would like to consider singing with the choir for its Christmas Cantata (Dec. 23), you are encouraged to come to practices beginning Nov. 18th. If you have questions, please contact Epiphany's Music Director, Mrs. Hannah George at [email protected].

401K MANDATORY DISTRIBUTIONS

Dear friends,

When we reach age 70, we have to start taking funds from our 401k accounts which become taxable income to us.  Please check with your CPA or financial firm before 12/31/18 and before you take your distribution.   There are ways to avoid the taxes on these distributions and we have several members who are pursuing this smart financial strategy.  You can designate your distribution to your church and/or other non-profit organizations if you wish.  Blessings,  Sarah

"Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor."
 - 1 Corinthians 10:24

Throughout the month of November, SC congregations celebrate the child and family ministries of Lutheran Services Carolinas. The theme for this month is "Come on people now, Smile on your brother" inspired by the song "Get Together" by The Youngbloods.
