Message from Unity Christ Center's Board President

When I made the decision in 2007 to retire 'early' due to my sister's terminal illness, I was scared, yup, scared, not sacred! So many emotions clouded my trust in the 'unknown'. A friend of mine gave me a little art piece that said, "Don't be afraid of change, be afraid of not changing." That quote tends to frame my actions as a constant reminder to live in the present moment - a moment that is by Divine Creation, in constant change. As we approach this New Year at Unity Christ Center it will be blessed with change, transformation and 'sacred' growth. I will be finishing up my six-year tenure serving you on the Unity Board of Trustees, an experience of sacred service that I will forever hold in my heart. We have two new Board members starting off 2020, Elizabeth Jacobs and Rob Harrington - what a dynamic duo, sure to bring "transformational energy' for all.

As we begin 2020, we are reminded that the core of transformational change is the interconnectedness we all share at Unity Christ Center; Unity continues to be a thriving community because we are attentive to Divine direction (changes!) for what is ours to do. James Dillet Freeman writes that, "You'll never see a redwood standing alone, it takes many of them to intertwine those shallow roots and remain standing."   As we look forward to the changes of 2020, may we all be reminded that we are no different than redwoods, expanding our strength through interconnectedness.   Carol Craig

      January Transition Journey Update

Sue Carlson, Board Secretary

Though we are currently without a minister we continue to have spiritual based talks during Sunday services. Our goal is to hire primarily, but not limit to, Unity based speakers who will use the Daily Word as a basis for their talk that day. We value our members' input so if you have a speaker in mind we welcome suggestions. The Board of Trustees and Unity office staff will be vetting suggested speakers to be sure they meet our members' needs.

Our Prayer Requests will continue via email. Our Unity Prayer Partners have graciously agreed to answer prayers. Timothy will be coordinating the technology aspects of receiving and sending the emails. Please continue to request prayers the way you always have.

Save these dates:

Sunday January 12th - annual meeting and potluck to follow service

Sunday January 26th - Sunday Service with speaker Rev Greg Coles and a Listening Circle facilitated by Greg to follow. This will be a time to share, participate and listen to the changes that are happening at Unity Christ Center.

Healing Space

N ew Offering for Spiritual Growth

Starting this January 27, 2020 at 6:30pm (Monday night), we will start a new spiritual adventure - creating a "Healing Space". This will be modeled after Myrtle Filmore and her approach to healing - that all healing comes from Spirit. To quote Myrtle: "Sometimes we pray to a God outside of ourselves. It is the God in the midst of us that frees and heals. You need to think of God, the all-powerful Healer, as being already within you, in every part of your mind, heart and body." Elizabeth Gerard, Jeannine Colburn and David Gerard will be helping to facilitate this concept. Our intention is that people learn to become their own healing facilitator, just like Myrtle. This will be a quiet, introspective time. Please come and experience this healing space with us. We are currently scheduling this time on the 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 pm. There will be a love offering.

The Power for January is "Faith"

Affirmation:  Faith blesses my day and paves my way.

Faith- The ability to believe, intuit and perceive.

The disciple Peter represents faith in things spiritual, faith in God.

The corresponding color is blue and the location is the center of the brain.

Awaken Your Faith Faculty
By Winifred Wilkinson Hausmann

Of all the faculties, the one Jesus spoke of most frequently was faith. ... Have faith. Believe. Trust. Over and over, Jesus emphasized this first of our powers, and in one of his disciples, we watch the faculty develop.
Faith does not come all at once with a mighty thud. It must grow. It must be encouraged. It must be invited and then made welcome. As Simon, the crude fisherman, became Peter, the dedicated apostle, so the ability to trust God must grow in our lives.

Faith has been defined in many ways. The writer of Hebrews referred to it as "the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen" (Heb. 11:1). Understood in this light, faith is that quality in us which enables us to look past appearances of lack, limitation or difficulty, to take hold of the divine idea and believe in it, even though we do not see any evidence of it except in our minds. Through faith we know with an inner knowing the Truth that has not yet expressed itself in our manifest world. ...
The location of the faith center is significant. It is in the center of the head, between the ears and the eyes. When we put our faith in that which we see with our eyes or hear with our ears, we are using the faculty in a limited way and the results will come accordingly.

However, we can center the faculty of faith on our inner vision and our inner hearing, developing this faculty through prayer to know the potential God has given us. And when we do, our results will express the higher realization of our spiritual nature. At its highest level, faith is directed by our spiritual nature, from the Christ center at the crown of the head. We determine the direction of our faith, and as we do, we determine the results that we will have in our lives. ...

In developing the quality of faith, we must start as Peter did, by being receptive to Truth ideas and letting them grow in us until we can feel our absolute oneness with the quality of faith-feel in such a way that we no longer think in terms of having faith, but express it automatically, as Jesus did.
