A MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR WARDEN
Search and Supply
On Sunday, November 4 th we said mahalo and a hui hou to Fr. Ryan as he completed his ministry here at All Saints’. Then on Friday, November 9 th we offered our prayers and best wishes as the whole Newman household – mom, dad, daughter and two dogs - left for California. So, we turn the page and begin to write a new chapter in the history of All Saints’ Church.

The Vestry has already met with Rev. Canon Sandy Graham, Canon for Congregational Life and Leadership with the Diocese, to begin the process of putting a Search Committee of 5 to 7 people in place. In our meeting we identified many potential candidates and, following discussion and prayerful review, 8 of those people became our “top tier”. Members of the Vestry then volunteered to contact specific candidate(s) within that group to ask if he/she would be willing to serve on the Search Committee.

I am very pleased to let you know that 4 people have already agreed to serve. These 4 represent a good cross section of our congregation – male, female, ethnicities, involvement in ministry(ies), kupuna etc. That is very encouraging. We will keep you updated on the status of the search process as it proceeds.

As we begin the search we obviously need to ensure that we have coverage at church for all of our services. Once again, I am very pleased to let you know that we have already arranged for coverage every Sunday through June 9, 2019 and we have others willing to serve should we need support after mid-June. Here is the list of clergy and relevant dates as posted in last week’s Epistle.
2018:
November 18
November 25
December 2
December 9
December 16
December 23 - 25
December 30

2019:
January through March
April through June 15

Ke Akua pu me Hale Pule All Saints’ – May God be with All Saints’ Church.
Very soon you will be receiving a letter from the Stewardship Committee with details of our 2019 Stewardship campaign. Fr. Ryan’s high energy, Spirit-filled sermon delivered at his final service on November 4 th inspired us to resurrect the theme of our 2016 Stewardship program and make Thrive! the focus of this Stewardship campaign.

With the letter you will also receive a pledge card that we hope you will return and offer at the “In-gathering of Pledges” on Sunday, December 9 th . Please think carefully - and prayerfully - as you determine the level of your pledge for this coming year.

We need YOUR continued support to enable All Saints’ Church to Thrive ! So please give generously of your Time, Talent and Treasure for 2019.

We know we were made for so much more than ordinary lives.
It’s time for us to more than just survive.
We were made to Thrive !

Mahalo nui loa! And may God continue to bless All Saints’ Church and our All Saints’ ‘Ohana.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Work Day Scheduled for Saturday at 8:00AM
We have a work day scheduled for this Saturday and have two main projects to focus on - the gym / gym kitchen and the rectory.

Come any time after 8:00 a.m. and we hope to be pau by noon.

1. The main focus of attention will be on the gym and the gym kitchen as we get ready to host the annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Lunch once again on Thanksgiving Day.

As we make preparations to host this event we need help to:

- clean and tidy the gym;
- clean and tidy the gym kitchen (a major job on its own!);
- clear litter and other debris from the church grounds; and
- clean the church in preparation for the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service.

2. Our other project is to work on the rectory - minor repairs including pulling nails, spackling, scraping peeling paint, cleaning walls, ledges and other surfaces in preparation for painting. There is also a lot of trash to be hauled away.

So, lots of work for any and all levels of experience and expertise.

Mahalo in advance for your help.

Me ke aloha,

-for Buildings and Grounds
David Murray

SACRED EARTH CHOIR
Bringing Love Though Musical Vibration
“The Sacred Earth Choir is a community song gathering on the island of Kauai, holding a vision of bringing more Love to the World through musical vibration. We celebrate the Beauty and Magic of shared intention in song. Our heart opening music comes from many sources, and we sing public concert offerings throughout the year.” ( https://sacredearthchoir.org )

Last Sunday The Sacred Earth Choir performed to the delight of the audience at All Saints' Church. Their show was very well received by all in attendance.

THANKSGIVING MEAL
Thursday, November 22 nd
The annual Kapa`a Interfaith Association's (KIA) Thanksgiving Luncheon is T hursday, November 22 nd , 11:00AM - 1:00PM. The day begins with an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at 10:00AM in the Church.

A big Mahalo to all of you that signed up last Sunday or during this week to help with the Thanksgiving Luncheon. It is a wonderful gift to the community and for the community. We could still use drivers to take meals to those that are shut ins as well as a couple more people to help clean up.

We also need juice boxes and fruit and flowers to decorate the gym. Please start talking to neighbors and friends that have trees full of fruit and flower gardens. It takes all of us to make this happen and we thank you so much for your willingness to be a part.

* Available for elderly and shut-ins. Requests due by November 12th.*

Please feel free to call Mary Margaret Smith at 821-2878 or Sarah Rogers at 822-3473 with any questions or answers! If it is more convenient, please email the co-chairs (Mary Margaret Smith and Sarah Rogers).
2019 ALTAR FLOWER MINISTRY
Correction!
Last week we erroneously published that Helen Ebesu will be in charge of the Altar Flower Ministry this year. In fact, this year Dee Takashima Grigsby will be taking on that responsibility. The Staff of your Epistle apologizes for any confusion caused by our error.
Please join us for an evening of local literature from the recent Bamboo Ridge anthology The Best of Aloha Shorts , performed by the original actors from Hawai`i Public Radio’s much loved radio program Aloha Shorts , hosted by HPR’s Arts and Culture Reporter Noe Tanigawa. Aloha Shorts may no longer be on the air, but Kaua`i audiences can now experience the infamous fun and magic of its live readings when HPR revives a Neighbor Island tour of “a major jewel in [its] local-programming crown.”

Additionally, you should know that on Kaua`i, it will be a one-act version (no intermission), about 80 minutes in length. The readings will be followed by a book signing and reception with light refreshments in the Parish Hall of St. Michael and All Angels. Local musicians are still TBA, but weʻre hoping for pre-show music and a couple of musical interludes throughout the evening.
SUNDAY SCHOOL THIS WEEK
Elijah and Elisha
In the Bible readings for last weeks lesson, we learned that Elisha becomes Elijah’s disciple. In today’s lesson we see the closeness of that relationship.

Elijah repeatedly tells Elisha that God has sent Elijah to another place, alone. But Elisha refuses to leave Elijah. Prophets show up to warn Elisha that he is about to lose his beloved master, but Elisha does not want to hear about it.

Finally, Elijah is taken away from Elisha and from his earthly life by God, but not before he has passed the mantle of prophecy to Elisha.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS AROUND THE ANGLICAN COMMUNION
Young Adult Service Corps Applications Available
The Young Adult Service Corps (YASC) offers exciting opportunities to serve, learn, and share while spending a year living and working with communities around the world.

“From working as ship-visiting chaplains with the Mission to Seafarers in Hong Kong and New Zealand to teaching in church-run primary and secondary schools in Costa Rica and Tanzania or supporting the transformation of sustainable development work in the Philippines, YASC volunteers build relationships with communities around the Anglican Communion and develop global perspectives on life and faith that stay with them for a lifetime,” said Elizabeth Boe, Episcopal Church Mission Personnel Officer. “We see this ministry as a way to support young adults in leadership development as they explore their faith in new ways, engage with diverse viewpoints, and offer their gifts and skills in new contexts.”

Open to Episcopalians ages 21-30, applications are now available for 2019-2020 placements with the Young Adult Service Corps, the international missionary program of the Episcopal Church. YASC volunteers are currently serving throughout the worldwide Anglican Communion, working alongside partners in administration, agriculture, communication, development, and education. They are serving with ministries in Costa Rica, England, Hong Kong, New Zealand, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Tanzania. Potential placements for 2019-2020 include (but are not limited to) Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, England, Honduras, Hong Kong, Panama, the Philippines, South Africa, Taiwan, and Tanzania.

The application for a 2019-2020 placement with additional information and instructions is available at bit.ly/YASCapp. The application deadline is Friday, January 11, 2019.

Former YASC volunteer Jared Grant describes his YASC experience as “a completely transformative experience in every way possible. I came into the program with the pessimistic view of ‘mission work’ being something that was outdated, ill-informed, and out of touch with the Church that I knew and loved. YASC provided me the opportunity to work with and develop ministries that respect the humanity in all of us, ministries that protect the sanctity of creation, ministries that seek the crazy idea of peace in a world that seems determined to head the other way. It turned out that my idea of ‘mission work’ was the thing that was outdated, not mission work itself. I’m still proud to call myself a missionary of the Church.” Following his YASC service in Lesotho and Italy, Grant chose to explore a theological education at Virginia Theological Seminary where he is now a student.

The Rev. David Copley, Director of Global Partnerships and Mission Personnel, noted, “YASC builds on the foundation of faith, knowledge, education and experience that young adults bring with them when they serve and offers opportunities to be challenged and transformed by being fully present in another part of God’s world. Missionary service is first and foremost an act of faith and a way of being Church.”

Additional information about YASC, videos, and blogs is available at  episcopalchurch.org/yasc .
