A message from Rabbi Silverman
I am excited to share that I will be in Israel this summer from June 30-July 25. I have been chosen to participate in the Rabbinic Leadership Initiative (RLI) of the Shalom Hartman Institute. The RLI is a highly selective three-year fellowship which trains a cohort of approximately 30 exceptional rabbis from across the country and denominational spectrum. I am able to go due to the generosity of the William Davidson Foundation, which recommended and is sponsoring two rabbis from Detroit--Rabbi Aaron Starr from Congregation Shaarey Zedek, and me.
I am thrilled about what this will bring to the Synagogue. RLI empowers fellows to better support their congregations as we take new risks, innovate new program models, uncover new creative forms of prayer and ritual, and make Torah learning a more central component of the community.
While I am away, rabbinic colleagues will be available for pastoral and lifecycle needs--please contact the office and they will connect you with whomever is on call.
Before I leave, I will see you this month at our Tikkun Leil Shavuot, Shabbat and holiday worship services, and multiple amazing programs. As you know, this is the 6th annual Tikkun Leil Shavuot in Woodbridge, and it will be phenomenal--bring a friend, drink some coffee, eat some cheesecake, and let's celebrate all night. I look forward to seeing you there!

Shavuot Supper and Slumber Party

Although we will be hosting learning sessions all throughout the night, we will also be hosting a
family celebration starting at 6:30 p.m. at Rabbi Silverman's home (4546 Avery, Detroit MI).
Pizza, snacks, games, and family fun will be included! Children are welcome to stay at Rabbi's home throughout the entire Shavuot celebration, if adults would like to attend learning sessions offered throughout Woodbridge.

6th Annual Woodbridge Tikkun Leil Shavuot

Our community will again gather for a night of study, delicious food, and great company in our annual Tikkun Leil Shavuot. We invite all to join in for an immersive learning experience, with sessions on Latin Dancing, Judaism & Anarchism, Yiddish Poetry, Knitting, and so much more!

Motor City Pride- Downtown Synagogue Booth

Join us in support of the LGBTQIA+ community of Detroit at the Motor City Pride Festival! The Downtown Synagogue will have a booth and will be passing out hygiene care kits assembled at Affirmations.

Playground Opening Ceremony- Eden Gardens Block Club

Join the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue and Repair The World Detroit to enjoy a glass of beer and learn more about the American Friends Service Committee's Good Neighbor Project! The Good Neighbor Project is a co-mentorship program designed to match up free-world individuals with Michigan prisoners who are serving Life or Long Indeterminate sentences. Together, we will explore the criminal justice system and how you can get involved with The Good Neighbor Project!
Tickets are $10 and you must be 21+ to attend the event. A ticket for a beer is included with the cost of your ticket. Ticket sales will conclude on Wednesday, June 12th at 11:00PM.

Yiddish Classes at the Downtown Synagogue!
Are you interested in connecting with the Yiddish language?! Then this is the class to begin your journey!
We will be offering a language and culture course teaching Yiddish through the artistic and political movements of (mostly) nineteenth and twentieth century Ashkenazic Jews, giving students the linguistic knowledge to further unearth the Yiddish lexicon for themselves.
Subjects covered: Yiddishland, Yiddish dialects, Yiddish linguistic theories, Yiddish-American slang, Classics, Satire, Folksongs, Poetry, Theater, Film, Socialism, Communism, Anarchism, Yiddish Expressionism and Introspectivism, Yiddish and Hebrew, Yiddish and German, Yiddish and Israel.
There will be a total of 8 sessions. Due to a schedule change, classes will now be held on

During our Shabbat morning worship, we read the names of people in our community who are in need of healing. As we invoke God's blessing, we also become more aware of the people who could use a little extra care. Please let us know if you would like us to read the name of a loved one.

Help Us Cook!
We're always seeking volunteers to help us in the kitchen! We pride ourselves on our delicious home cooked Shabbat meals. If you want to contribute to the synagogue by cooking, please contact our Kitchen Coodinator to get on the schedule.
Clean House!
As we work to clean up and clear out in our Synagogue, we ask your cooperation. If you notice a spill, please wipe it up. If you drop crumbs, please clean them up. If you use the kitchen, please clean up. If you have extra papers or handouts, please take them home to recycle them. Just a reminder: please no food or drinks (other than water) are allowed on the 2nd floor. As we continue to create our welcoming communal home, please help us to keep it inviting. As the saying goes, "it takes a village."

Whether you have joy you wish to share in song or you are feeling in the mood to just be quietly present, we have a place reserved just for you. Services at 6:00 pm followed by a deliciously prepared Kosher vegetarian dinner. End your hectic work week with

Where would Jews be without the Torah? Torah is the center of our Saturday Shabbat service. It is a mitzvah to make a
minyan so we can read the Torah and people can say
kaddish. Please come to the Saturday morning Shabbat service at 10:00. We want to pass the Torah
l'dor vador.
