Week of April 12, 2021

Good Afternoon CCGS Families,

We had another great shortened week here at CCGS! This week we were so excited to be able to welcome back so many students to school either full day or for our hybrid program. It is hard to believe that we have 6.5 short weeks of school left in the school year, but that is 6.5 weeks of fun, learning, and continued growth with our students!

Mrs. Niner is recording the students for the virtual concert this week and next week. They have been working so hard! Mrs. Becker has been working with her students on their art projects for our virtual art fair also. I love seeing students showing their enthusiasm and love of the arts each week.

Our students will also be setting their fourth quarter goals for reading and writing over the next few weeks. Mrs. Anderson and I cannot wait to come in and visit them to hear about their final goals for the school year. Our goal board if so full!

We have been notified that if you have a Comcast email account the Qualtrics health screener could be getting blocked. To ensure that you are getting the daily health screener, please click on this link to follow the directions. In the meantime, please complete the visitor link .

Parents asked to complete a food service survey by April 14
As Yorkville CUSD 115 students attended school in various methods/times this school year, the district strived to bring a sense of normalcy to the food service program to ensure that nutritious meals were consistently available for all Y115 students. Especially after this challenging year, it is important for the district to learn from parents what worked well and what improvements may be needed to the district's food service program.

Parents are asked to complete a survey (link below) on behalf of each of their children in grades 1-6 regarding their food service experience in Y115. Survey answers are anonymous and results will be shared with the Y115 Food Service Committee in order to prepare for next school year.

Survey Deadline: Wednesday, April 14 at 5 p.m.

  • Thank you to our families that completed the District 115 20-21 school planning survey. Here are the results of that survey.
  • Introducing District 115’s New Online Payment Portal. Yorkville CUSD 115 is now accepting online payments! Conveniently pay fees, purchase tickets, add money to lunch accounts, and much more from a computer or mobile device. The district’s new payment portal saves time and ensures users that their payments are securely sent to and received by the district. Debit, credit card and eChecks are accepted. Parents are encouraged to set up a payment portal account at https://y115.RevTrak.net (access is also available on the home pages of the district/schools websites). The system is currently accepting payments for current account balances, elementary intramurals, and Yorkville Education Foundation donations.
  • BACK FOR 2021! The Yorkville School District is hosting The Virtual Taste of Yorkville "Culture Matters" to feature the melting pot of cultures that make up the Yorkville School District community. This virtual event will feature several cultural highlights, recipes, and interviews. This year's event will be held virtually on YouTube due to the current pandemic. The event will kick-off this year on Saturday, April 24th.  We are looking for participants to submit a video that will showcase aspects of your culture/country. You will be showcasing one aspect of your cultural heritage in a 5-10 minute video and allow others to travel the world experiencing your culture through artifacts, music, dance, food, arts, literature and more. If you are interested in participating, please fill out this Participant Google Form. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Camp at [email protected]

Mrs. Reveter's Classroom Highlight of the Week

Welcome to our room!!!! In our room, we know that the best learning happens when we are having fun! We also embrace our mistakes and use them to show what we need to work a little more on. We have flexible seating, fidgets, and a lot of hands on activities to help everyone stay engaged on learning tasks. Students in our room are kind and supportive to one another and work as a team to help each other grow.

We have been learning just how fun reading can be and how a story can create images in our minds. If you walk by our room, you may hear us reading in silly voices or see us illustrating sentences and paragraphs that we have read. We are using strategies to go back into text to find answers to questions or using what we have learned to make inferences and predictions about text.

In writing, we have been transforming some of our boring, easy to write, sentences into sentences that other people will be excited to read. We have been working on using adjectives to be more descriptive and varying our sentence styles to make our writing engaging. We are also working on showing cause and effect or comparing and contrasting when writing. Our writers have also become pretty persuasive and have worked on providing detailed reasons to support their arguments.

Math this year has been really awesome as we have worked hard on learning to multiply and divide numbers, find areas and perimeters of polygons, rounding whole numbers, and comparing fractions. We have started working on elapsed time for fourth quarter.

We are also very lucky to have the most amazing paraprofessionals and related service providers ever to help support students!

Love,
