Racial differences split GTCF's Youth Philanthropy Board (YPB) in two at a recent meeting. It wasn't a rift in the group. Breaking into discussion groups according to racial identity was part of a facilitated exercise to support deeper reflection about how racism shows up in our community.

Planning charitable giving is not always a common practice.

Decisions to give to a nonprofit are often made hurriedly at the end of the year as people combine their impulse to give with a desire to generate a tax benefit.

On the other hand, families like the Nists, who currently have four generations and fifteen family members involved in their philanthropic planning have made a significant impact for many local nonprofits by being very intentional with their annual giving.

A group of nearly 30 Expanded Learning providers in the Whole Child Partnership gathered on December 13, 2019 to learn strategies for helping students identify and move through challenging emotions.

While the training was designed to show providers how to teach students techniques they can use to regulate their emotions, GTCF Program Associate, Kayla Davis said it was also valuable for the adults to learn how to use the techniques themselves.

"As adults we are the ones teaching the kids, but we have our own challenging emotions to deal with sometimes too. These skills really are beneficial for all of us to learn so we can be at our best for our students, co-workers, and families."

In our latest annual book of Pierce County Partners, we share stories and insights from individuals and organizations who are making a difference in Pierce County. In their own words, they speak about the dreams and lessons that fuel their work in the community.

As Executive Director of The American Leadership Forum (ALF), Beth Boggs helps bring together influential leaders from many sectors in the community who likely wouldn't meet otherwise. "ALF is connecting diverse leaders who are forming unlikely relationships and increasing important collaborations with one another."
