DONATE TO DIGNITY KITCHEN ORGANIZED BY WESTVILLE
MUSICIANS
"Dignity Music is in its fourth year of bringing live classical music to New Haven area soup kitchens. Exposure to live music is certainly not an essential, but it can help to lift moods and minds and remind people going through a tough time of when they played, what they played and how much they enjoyed doing it. Dignity Music is a project designed to uplift the heart. The first year of Dignity Music I presented eight concerts for the homeless and marginally-homed population of New Haven at the St. Thomas Moore Soup Kitchen, Stepping Stone Transitional Housing program, Fellowship Place and the New Haven Free Public Library..." AUTHOR VISIT: GENESE CLARK @MITCHELL LIBRARY

Local children's author will read from her new picture book Suddenly I Found It. All ages welcome!

With bold, vibrant illustrations that take the reader on a fantastic journey following a string, Suddenly I Found It! addresses the joy of discovery and a little boy's appreciation for the gifts found within. The poetic cadence and repetitive phrases help children remember that if the gift is out of sight, you must always "keep looking." You may have to move things around and also face your fears, yet an opportunity to find a gift awaits the seeker on every adventure. The discovery of those gifts, when combined with a smile, creates sustainable changes toward stronger individuals, families, and communities around the world.

Genese Clark creates a story of curiosity and exploration to reinforce the benefit of a strengths-perspective. By identifying one's strengths, an individual is acknowledging what they have rather than what they are lacking. Though the main character begins his journey in search of something he thought he did not have, he soon realizes that his "gifts" connect to his string and his heart keeps making it appear. Whether a child is climbing a tree, whispering into a dog's ear, or imagining the possibilities that lie beyond the stars, the simple pleasures of life hold within them priceless gifts. ZEN CON SON BY MIGUEL TRELLES @DASILVA GALLERY

From November 10th to December 1st, Miguel Trelles will be displaying his paintings.

Rather than pursuing radical innovations, Miguel Trelles favors revolutionary archaism in his new Zen con Son series of works.  Personally meaningful references from Chinese dynastic painting as well as an increasing number of pre-Columbian motifs are "telescoped" into colorful new compositions.  By delving into the Pre-Columbian heritage while respectfully approaching Chinese sources via the chino-latino aesthetic this recent series broadens our contemporary sensibility and continues Trelles exploration of a Pan-American suma.

Miguel Trelles is a visual artist who divides his time between New Haven and New York City. Trelles' chino-latino painting series derives inspiration from classic Chinese painting along with Pre-Columbian and Latin American imagery.
