Transformation & Hope!
Pastor Ulysses Stephen King, Jr., Mrs. Tiffany, and the Memorial Tabernacle Family are grateful for each of you who were able to worship with us Sunday. We were able to pray together, worship and praise God together, and fellowship together!
Teen Challenge NorWestCal Nevada  came to Memorial Tabernacle Sunday and inspired, encouraged, and challenged us to reach out beyond four walls to young and old that are in need of help—spiritually and naturally. Each song was filled with a message of hope. The testimonies of a young heroin addict overcoming his addiction by accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, and young women who had been abused physically and sexually by men and women who said they loved her—and their families who rejected them at a very young age—moved us all. We heard the voice and call of Jesus Christ anew to “Go!”

It was an awesome day of rejoicing, praising God, witnessing, and fellowship among fellow-believers. United by all faiths and races, men and women, young and old—black, white, Asian, and Latino—heaven will be like this! Thank you, Teen Challenge, for worshiping with us and becoming a part of the MTC Family Reunion.

If you were not able to make it, you were missed in worship Sunday. Please please join us Sunday at 10:30AM. As always, we pray for you, and we ask that you continue to do the same for us. We invite you to become a member of a family of believers God is using to "reach to teach, teach to change" one person and one block at a time. Stay prayerful... #FromGenerationToGeneration #GodFirst #58thStAndTelegraphAve
Sermon Summary | November 11, 2018
“THIS IS MY STORY!” (Luke 15:3-32 ) OUR PASTOR ULYSSES STEPHEN KING, JR.
Luke offers us three stories in chapter 15, three parables, and three offerings of divine wisdom. They are all three about the same thing—being lost and found, or as the famed preacher-teacher Fred Craddock writes, these are “three parables of joy.”

First, the shepherd with a hundred sheep loses one. He leaves the other ninety-nine sheep and searches until he finds the lost sheep, then he carries it back to the flock. Next, we have the woman who has ten pieces of silver, drachma or denarii; this silver is all the money she has. So, when she loses one piece, she searches and sweeps until she finds the missing coin. And I know you know the third parable, the story of the prodigal son who asks for his inheritance early then goes off to squander and waste it (“prodigal” means “wasteful”) but eventually returns, impoverished, to his father. The father celebrates his return and welcomes him back with a lavish party, but the elder brother, who never left home, worked every day, and never received such treatment, is hurt and angry.

What I am trying to share with you this morning is that there need not be a situation or a moment of high drama or critical importance for God to come seeking us. We don’t need to be the one lost sheep, the one lost coin, or the prodigal son or daughter to know the wonder of the touch of the Savior’s arms embracing us and carrying us.

In Meditations of the Heart, Howard Thurman reminds us that God seeks us. It’s not that God seeks us when we are lost, or when we are in trouble or being defiant, or when we are praising God. The truth is that God seeks us period, and always, without ceasing and without pause! Every day, and every hour. Thurman tells us, “Blessed remembrance! God is seeking you. Wonderful assurance! God is seeking you. This is the meaning of your longing, this is the warp of your desiring, this is your point.” This is my story! —Notes by USK

WHY WE GIVE THANKS
Giving thanks is an attitude that shows maturity in our walk with the Lord. The Psalmist wrote: “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart” (Psalm 9:1). We can choose to grumble or we can choose to give thanks for what we have, be it a little or a lot. As Paul said, “for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content” (Philippians 4:11).

Giving Thanks Is Commanded
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). It is God’s will that we give thanks always. Therefore, we are in sin if we choose to grumble instead.

God Is Worthy Of Our Thanks
“Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” (Psalm 106:1). Our God is good all of the time. He deserves our thanks! What has he done in your life worthy of praise? You are alive. That is a great place to start! Take some time to think about all of the things you can give God thanks for.

*Thank Him for the beautiful sunrise/sunset.
*Thank Him for beautiful country sides.
*Thank Him for your close friends and family.
*Thank Him for your gifts he has blessed you with.
*Thank Him for your job.

Most importantly, thank Him for sending Jesus Christ to us to be crucified on the cross to take away the punishment for our sins! Thank Jesus today!

Our Church Mission
The Memorial Tabernacle Church has come together by the Holy Spirit for the specific purpose of preaching and teaching the word of God, (the Bible), and about Jesus Christ, God's son, and to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom of God to the North Oakland Community and its environs; to bring healing to the brokenhearted and deliverance to the oppressed; to be a center of genuine concern for those in need, a sanctuary of community worship that is neither shallow nor restrained, a spiritual home where members find an expression of precious love for one another and a haven for the unsaved.
