A Note from Mrs. Ryan
Dear Parents,

At St. Rose your children's safety is our highest priority. However it can be difficult for school administrators to balance your children's educational needs and your needs as parents with the wide variety of perceptions people have about children's health and safety. We have been challenged this past week in the area of air quality. Last night I received information that the Sonoma County Office of Education has consulted with experts and released new guidelines to schools about air quality and school closures. Using the new guidelines, county schools would have been open last Friday and yesterday with students remaining indoors.

Not all schools are as fortunate, but our school is blessed with a top quality air filtration system and newer buildings that are not drafty. Air quality seems to be improving, but we will keep students inside at recess, lunch, and PE as long as the air quality index remains in the unhealthy category.

Whether it be air quality or inclement weather, as long as it is safe to do so, St. Rose will remain open on calendared school days. We will do our best to notify you as soon as possible if there is a necessity to close. Please remember that, as the parent, you have the final responsibility of determining the best course of action when it comes to your child's safety and well-being. If St. Rose is open and you do not feel it is safe to travel to school or to have your child present at school you always have the option of keeping your child at home.

If you would like to read the guidelines and the explanation issued by the Sonoma County Office of Education, here is the link:
