What's happening

Our members have been busy over the last month! Members are having a blast participating in the various programs the Club has been offering.

The Learning Center has been offering three, main programs so far this school year: Power Hour, BookNook, and LEGO Robotics.

Power Hour offers a quiet learning environment for the kids to work on their homework with staff assistance. BookNook is a new web-based reading app that we have begun offering this year.

BookNook meets Monday and Tuesday from 4:00-5:00 and Wednesday from 4:00-5:45. Our goal is to assess the current reading levels of our members and to help them improve their reading, comprehension, and confidence.

F.I.R.S.T. LEGO League is a worldwide league where students from 4th to 8th grade identify and solve a problem in a science fair like project, and compete in a competition where they try to score points by navigating a map full of obstacles with a LEGO robot that they program and direct. We travel to Worcester Polytechnic Institute on December 2nd to compete against other teams!

The Art Room is constantly full of members working on incredible and creative artwork with our amazing Art Room Coordinator, Doreen. Doreen is always coming up with new and exciting art projects for our members. On Fridays, cooking is offered in the Art Room. This is a very popular activity with our members!

The Teen Room is full of energetic teenagers challenging their friends in various tournaments. The teens are enjoying their "Teen Only" gym time!

We are offering MyFuture again this year. MyFuture is a BGCA web platform where club members create accounts and participate in activities related to STEM, leadership, media, digital literacy, and more. As they complete activities and projects,  members will earn badges that will allow our club to compete with other Boys & Girls Clubs.

Members have also been working on completing t digital literacy typing activities and learning how to edit photos in media making.

Photo Club has started! On Wednesdays and Fridays, the club meets during from 2:30-4:00pm. Members have started learning the basic of photography and how to use a camera properly. The kids and our awesome program assistant Laura will be going around the island to take pictures of everything and anything that gives off an artistic vibe. Members will explore their creative side and enjoy another form of art. Members will learn how to edit Adobe programs and will be given the opportunity to show off their work in a photo exhibit.

Jasmine and Katie, two energetic staff, are co-running the Triple Play Healthy Habits program this year. They are teaching our members how to be healthy at the Club. So far this year, they've conducted relay races, dodgeball games, stretching sessions, and the favorite activity- "Snack Chat" where kids talk about the foods they've eaten that day and help determine what is healthy or not. Keep up the good work!
