PTSA NEWS
STILL ONLY THREE WEEKS TO THE SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR !

NEW DATES: DECEMBER 3-7

You know how sometimes you leave your seat at the movie theater to get concessions before the movie starts, and when you come back, your seat has been taken? Well, that's kind of what happened with our Book Fair. The school scheduled some important meetings during our planned week and, well . . .

So, we gladly moved our event, and the Book Fair will now open at noon on Monday, December 3—opening before and after school and during lunches all that week. Books for Middle Schoolers, High Schoolers—even cookbooks—will be for sale.  All sales will benefit the IS library.

Interested in volunteering? Please click here.

Any questions, please contact Meribeth,  [email protected] .
RAISE THE TORCH  TO ALL OUR GENEROUS DONORS!

As a community, we raised an impressive $28,000 during our Fall Fundraiser! Just shy of our stretch goal, but the stats are noteworthy. There was a 46% increase in participation and 31% increase in donations compared to last year.

On behalf of the ISPTSA Board of Directors, a HUGE THANK YOU to all the families, faculty, and individuals listed who gave generously to our campaign! Your support allows the PTSA to continue to fund programs which enrich the academic and community experience for every student at IS.

If you didn’t get around to participating in our fall campaign, it’s not too late!  We accept donations year round and will count contributions made through December toward this campaign. Click  here to donate!

Stay tuned for details about our Spring Social, already being planned!

SCHOOL NEWS
DROP OFF AND PICK-UP REMINDERS FROM SCHOOL

Parents, please remember that when dropping off and picking up your students, you are not permitted to do so behind the school . There are no crosswalks for students' safety. The road is narrow and you block staff and students who are permitted to park behind the school, which we limit.

Also, please do not drive through the parking lot to drop off your students . This clogs the parking lot for staff and students who are trying to get to their parking spots to get to work and class on time. Please continue around the circle and drop off your students at the crosswalk.

Do not park in staff or student parking spots in the morning to drop off your students or to come into the school. Please use only the visitors' spots on the outside of the circle or find a legal spot on the street.

For more drop off and pick-up info, click here.
CLASS OF 2020 PARENTS—JUNIOR APPOINTMENTS BEGAN LAST WEEK!

Please sign up here under your student's name to meet with High School Counselor Melinda Breeze and your student to discuss college strategies. Both parents are encouraged to attend. 45-minute appointments will be scheduled from November through January.
VOLUNTEER FOR SENIOR PROJECT ADVISORY PANEL

Interested in helping IS while getting a sneak peek at what Senior Project is all about?

Tuesday, November 27, 6:00-9:30 PM
Dinner included!

IS staff is seeking about thirty-five IS adult community members for a one-evening-only commitment to participate in Senior Project Advisory Panel. You will join other IS parents, community members, and staff to review Project Proposals written by our seniors. As a group and led by a staff member, you will either approve or require changes to those proposals. This review and approval process, called Senior Project Advisory Panel, is an important first step in our seniors getting formal feedback from people other than their teachers, and also allows students to get actionable feedback from adults with experience in areas our staff may not have.

Staff members are recruiting panelists with experience and expertise in a wide variety of fields, and it is likely something in your background fits one of our needs. Click  here  to view categories and sign up.

Please consider volunteering, and don't forget that in just a few short years it will be your student who will rely on a group of volunteers to help support his or her project. (Senior parents are not allowed to participate.)

Here’s how it works:
  • Before the Advisory Panel meeting, staff members divide Senior Project Proposals into groups of similar topics and assign four panelists with relevant backgrounds to review each group of proposals.
  • Proposals are emailed to you a week in advance, along with an evaluation form so you know how you’re expected to critique the proposals. You review and comment on each proposal BEFORE attending the Advisory Panel meeting.
  • Following training at the meeting, groups gather in separate rooms. An experienced IS staff member is assigned to each team to take notes. The group collectively decides whether the proposal is approved as presented or what changes need to be incorporated for proposal approval.
  • Most groups wrap up between 9-9:30 PM. At that point, your commitment is over.
  • The teacher is responsible for providing the feedback to the students. YOU do not interact with the students; the students do not know which adults vetted their proposals—it’s all very anonymous.

If you are able to participate, please complete this  quick form  which will help us thoughtfully create working groups based on your background.

Please email Sally Fouche' , Senior Project Advisory Panel & Board Day Coordinator, with questions.
THANKSGIVING DINNER (FOR LUNCH)!

Thursday, November 15

Don’t let your student miss out on the most delicious school lunch of the year!  This Thursday, the kitchen will be serving turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce, and a dinner roll with a mini pie for dessert!

Please note that this information differs from the BSD posted high school menu which lists Thanksgiving lunch on Friday, 11/16. International will serve Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday, 11/15 .
ONLY A FEW MORE DAYS TO ORDER STUDENT PHOTOS

Parents, if your student had their picture taken on Picture Retake Day and you didn’t order photos but you now want to, it is not too late. LifeTouch has sent proofs for everyone who had their picture taken. We have not passed these out to students but will hang on to them until November 15. If you want your proofs, have your student stop by the main office.  After the 15th, they will be destroyed.
