Ma Chadash: What's New at Adat Shalom?

Security Update
Adat Shalom Security Update:  Executive Director Marla Cohen has taken the lead in focusing on both immediate and longer term security measures at Adat Shalom. Immediate measures have included, among other things:  (1) having an armed security guard (plain-clothes or uniformed) on site before, during and after Shabbat services; (2) strengthening controls on access to our building; and, (3) changing certain procedures on Shabbat relating to our Torah School students' ingress/egress for outdoor recess.  Marla has consulted with a security expert and Homeland Security Liaison for Jewish Federation of Greater Washington,  and with a Montgomery County Police Dept. security expert who specializes in working with faith-based organizations and their buildings. Longer term improvements are under consideration. The security measures have been reviewed and discussed by the Board and have been the subject of consultation with staff, Torah School teachers, parents and the Torah School Council.  A newly forming security committee will assist in implementing new measures and train coordinating more trainings. If you have questions, please contact Marla or the Co-Presidents.
