A Message From the President - Dean Athanassiades
 
Welcome to the November issue of our newsletter. This month I want to tell you about an upcoming annual event in our Society - the election of new leadership for our Society.

If you are an SHS member, in early December you'll receive a ballot to vote for our next President-Elect and 2 new board members. The President-Elect rotates through 3 roles beginning with the President-Elect position, then President, and finally Past-President. Directors serve 3-year terms. In that way, we have two new directors each year and two directors rotate off the board each year. For the past several months, the Nominating Committee, chaired by our Past-President, Ashley Benedict, has been recruiting an amazing slate of candidates that you will learn about when you receive your ballot in December. 
 
Please take a few moments to vote when you receive your ballot. 
SHS Annual Business Meeting  is TODAY- Nov. 14, 2 p.m. ET

Society for Health Systems (SHS) president Dean Athanassiades and president-elect Isaac Mitchell will be sharing the state of the society in our annual business meeting which will be held as a webinar. Please join them as they celebrate the past successes of the year and highlight upcoming activities for SHS members.
NEW! SHS Advisory Council

The Society for Health Systems is happy to announce the formation of the SHS Advisory Council. This group will provide expertise and insights to guide the Board in activities such as the development of the vision, mission, strategic plan, and annual work plan. Additionally, the council will provide unique perspectives and insights to identify opportunities for the Society for Health Systems to bring additional value to its members. Please join me and welcoming and thanking the new members for their service.

This month your SHS Newsletter would like to introduce you to  ISE magazine's Health Systems columnists, Peter Woodbridge and Tarun Mohan Lal. Woodbridge is a medical doctor who doubles as the chief health information officer and chief of innovations, reliability, informatics and improvement service at the New Mexico VA Health Care System - in other words, a physician who has bought into process improvement. Lal is an industrial engineer and manager of practice optimization and acceleration at the Mayo Clinic.
 
ISE is IISE's membership magazine, and Woodbridge and Lal alternate each month. Here are their last four columns:

Share Your Knowledge at the 2019 Applied Ergonomics Conference


Abstracts can now be submitted for next year's  Applied Ergonomics Conference as it makes its way to the Big Easy on

AEC Poster Presentations Deadline Extended

Deadline Extended to submit your abstract for Poster Presentations until 
Nov. 27.  Educators, students, professionals, researchers and others are urged to submit original contributions  related to the fields of ergonomics, healthcare , safety, human resources and risk management that can be displayed in an educational poster format.
 
Society for Health Systems Scholarship
Sponsored by HealthTrust Workforce Solutions

Available to undergraduate students enrolled full-time in any school in the United States and its territories, Canada and Mexico, provided: (1) the school's industrial engineering program or equivalent is accredited by an agency or organization recognized by IISE; and (2) the student is pursuing a course of study in industrial engineering and operations research with a definite interest in the area of healthcare. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000. Deadline for nominations is Nov. 15. Read more here .
