Light up a Child's Life this Chanukah

On 14th December 1947, the first Sunday of Chanukah, Jewish children in the UK raised £14,000 to help displaced children from Europe who were less fortunate than themselves.

Since that very day, the philosophy behind Jewish Child's Day has never wavered and this Chanukah, we are giving you the opportunity to give your child(ren) the greatest gift of all - the chance to make a difference to a child less fortunate than themselves.

Israel Trek

A group of 16 Jewish Child's Day supporters landed in Israel on 14th October, to begin their 3 day trek across Northern Israel. The group walked 60km over 3 consecutive days - starting at Yesha Fort and walking to Alma bridge. The group also walked down Mount Meron soaking up the amazing landscapes. At times, everyone felt both physically and mentally challenged, as no amount of preparation could have prepared the group for the rocky terrain, the high temperatures and the steep upward and downward slopes the group had to navigate.

One trekker told us "the highlight of the trek was the final day, when we walked with a group of young children with a range of physical disabilities that are supported by Simcha Layeled, one of the many projects that Jewish Child's Day supports annually. As we walked, sang and picnicked with these fantastic children, the sheer look of determination on their faces as they face an upward struggle every day of their lives was truly heart wrenching."

The groups fundraising efforts, raised in excess of £60,000, which in turn will make an insurmountable difference to thousand of Jewish Children in need. Jewish Child's Day is planning another trekking challenge in Israel in 2019. To register your interest, please contact [email protected]

** Date for your Diary **

With only three months to go, excitement is mounting for our Gala Dinner, on 5th February, 2019 at a fantastic West End venue.

The theme for this year's dinner 'Walk With Me' resonates deeply with the charity which continues to ensure all children, whatever their needs, are supported every step of the way to ensure a better future. We are thrilled and indeed privileged that our guest speaker for the evening will be Eva Schloss MBE, holocaust survivor memoirist and stepdaughter of Otto Frank, the father of Anne and Margot Frank.

If you would be interested in attending or hosting a table, please email [email protected]

If you are unable to attend, but would be interested in sponsoring an advert in our dinner brochure or a balloon in the name of a loved one, please contact [email protected].

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Twinning Programme

We are very proud of our Bar/Bat Mitzvah twinning programme and the different it makes to so many.

Our 'twins' in the UK provide funds for their twin which provide the overseas 'twins' with things that they need whether it be a bed, computer, therapy, clothes or something else which will make a difference to their life.   Friendship is another amazing thing that comes out of many twinnings.

We were delighted to hear that one of our families met the Israeli family again this summer having originally met last year - it is amazing how many hearts were touched - this is the email we received this morning which brought a tear to everyone

"The meeting yesterday was lovely. It's hard to believe that 4 hours went by when it felt like only 5 minutes. Ariel was very excited from the morning and couldn't wait to leave for the outing. Liz is absolutely amazing. Gabriel took Ariel and bought him a very nice shirt. The boys wandered round the store together. This is something nobody has ever done for Ariel.  Ariel has never received a gift from his uncles, relatives, grandparents or anyone and I could count on one hand the number of times anyone has ever invited him out. As a mother, I'm not only happy with what they bought him, but for the wonderful experience Ariel and his brothers had."
