A Special Message From Rabbi Silver
|
|
Dear Shir Chadash community
As the burials begin in Pittsburgh, I have been so proud of the way our community has come together to support each other as we begin to grapple with the deeper meaning of what has happened. We gathered, we prayed, we mourned, we reached out – and now we are working out what our next steps will be to enable us to hold our heads high and keep ourselves safe.
This Shabbat a number of national initiatives are taking place – Solidarity for Pittsburgh, Show Up For Shabbat – and these are commendable. But on a purely local level I invite you to come to Shir Chadash this weekend. We will be here on Friday for services beginning at 6:15 pm, Shabbat morning at 9:30 am with lunch and speaker Sheva Chaya Shaiman afterwards, and for Men’s Club Minyan on Sunday morning at 9:15 am with breakfast afterwards.
Many of you have told me how much strength and comfort you have gained from our being together. Let us continue proudly to demonstrate our commitment to our tradition and our ideals and to the freedom to practice them.
חזק חזק ונתחזק
Let us be strong and find strength together.
Rabbi Silver

Remembering Tree of Life Victims
|
As we begin to address the aftermath of the attack on Tree of Life, I have been hearing from you about your personal connections with the community. Ellen Kessler sent me her recollections of one of the precious souls there. You can read them
here
.
May Rose Mallinger’s memory, and the memory of all those from her community, be for a blessing – and may justice be swift in coming.

Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel is a stirring story of sports, patriotism and personal growth. The movie charts the underdog journey of Israel's national baseball team competing, for the first time, in the World Baseball Classic in 2017. Jeremy Bleich, a hometown star who is one of the players featured in the film, will be here to introduce the movie and answer questions at the end.
As part of the Cathy and Morris Bart Jewish Cultural Arts Series, this event is free and open to the community.
