More of the wurst + Veteran's Day Battle Dance
Just when you thought it couldn't get any wurst...ta da! one more weekend of Wurstfest. Special Veterans salute on Sunday at 5:30 pm in front of Wursthalle followed by music of the Cloverleaf Orchestra - the only band to have played at all 58 Wurstfests! See sie full fest schedule.
If you're looking for a great way to celebrate Veterans' Day, then head to West. The West Columbus Hall is hosting a battle dance on Sun., Nov. 11 between Roger Kirby & Texas Heartbeat and Jodie Mikula Orchestra from 1-6 pm. This is the third year to feature this battle between one of Waco's best country bands and one of Ennis' best polka bands. Doors open at 11 am and a special salute to veterans will be held at 12:30 pm. Dudley Allen will sing his YouTube hit "Kneel or Stand" along with other patriotic songs. A fried chicken dinner with all the trimmings will be served for $10, except for veterans. Those who served our country, along with their spouses, eat for free!
Another awesome celebration is the
56th Anniversary of All Veterans Day in Praha. It begins with Mass at 9:30 am, followed by a memorial service, flyover, and flower drop. Then feast on that famous Praha fried chicken. Saaa-lute!
More good vet news: Elaine Thomas will launch the sale of her book,
Veterans' Voices and Home Front Memories, at a book signing event on Sat., Nov. 10 from 1:30-4:30 pm at historic Casino Hall in La Grange, sponsored by the Fayette Public Library, Archives and Museum.
KVLG/KBUK Radio (104.9) in La Grange will be doing a remote broadcast during the book signing, so if you can't be there in person, you can listen in. Click here to order online. Profits from the sale of books will go to a scholarship at Blinn College - Schulenburg. "By donating profits to a scholarship, my husband, Emil, and I are 'paying it forward.' This gesture, in a very small way, recognizes the contributions of WWII veterans and those on the home front, while supporting local students who are tomorrow's leaders," Elaine said.

Texas Folklife seeks participants for its 2019 Apprenticeship Program
Texas Folklife has made the 2019 application for the Apprenticeships in the Folk & Traditional Arts Program available to the public at
texasfolklife.org/apprenticeships
Program guidelines, a video overview of the program, and additional information are available through this link on the Texas Folklife website. The postmark deadline for applications is Friday, November 16, 2018, at 5:00 p.m.
Texas Folklife's Apprenticeships in the Folk Arts program provides awards of up to $2,500 for master artists to train qualified apprentices. The apprenticeship program allows an apprentice to improve and refine their craft under the direction of an experienced master artist over a period of several months. This provides the opportunity for the apprentice to continue his or her craft at a higher level, and, in turn, teach to others.

WEEKLY LAUGH
Two very active seniors (Jacob, age 92, and Mary, age 89), living in The
Villages in Florida, are all excited about their decision to get married.
They go for a stroll to discuss the wedding, and on the way they pass a
drugstore. Jacob suggests they go in.
Jacob addresses the man behind the counter:
"Are you the owner?"
The pharmacist answers, "Yes."
Jacob: "We're about to get married. Do you sell heart medication?"
Pharmacist: "Of course we do."
Jacob: "How about medicine for circulation?"
Pharmacist: "All kinds."
Jacob: "Medicine for rheumatism?"
Pharmacist: "Definitely."
Jacob: "How about suppositories and medicine for impotence?"
Pharmacist: "You bet!"
Jacob: "Medicine for memory problems, arthritis and Alzheimer's?"
Pharmacist: "Yes, a large variety. The works."
Jacob: "What about vitamins, sleeping pills, Geritol, antidotes for
Parkinson's disease?"
Pharmacist: "Absolutely."
Jacob: "Everything for heartburn and indigestion?"
Pharmacist: "We sure do."
Jacob: "You sell wheelchairs and walkers and canes?"
Pharmacist: "All speeds and sizes."
Jacob: "Adult diapers?"
Pharmacist: "Sure, how can I help you?
Jacob: "We'd like to use this store as our Bridal Registry."
