A NOTE ABOUT FUNDRAISING
I have volunteered in many different roles at Rockwell over the last 4 years as a Rockwell parent. However, this year I am new as a PTA board member and I wanted to share a little story with you. Recently, I attended our monthly board meeting and as I listened to the dozen or so formal requests to our PTA from Rockwell teachers to help fund academic enrichment, I really sat there amazed and moved. All attending board members raised our hands with an unanimous "Yes" to fund those requests. And it wouldn't have been possible without your generous support early in the school year. Our family has always donated money to the PTA but I had never really thought about its impact until that moment.
Because of all of your early generous contributions, the PTA Board was easily able to approve and fund Field Trip student admissions for multiple grades, new library books and Toymaker (an educational hands on STEM workshop) for multiple grades.
But wait we are not done for this year! There will be many more requests to support academic enrichment programs, some of them unforeseen and not yet accounted for in our budget as we move through the year. We also have to fund the School Musical and STEM Night early next year. And we have not yet met our Matching goal. This means daily reminders to yourself or spouse to submit those matching requests through your company. This is free money and takes just a little extra time at work to fill out the form. If you completed a "First Day Packet" back in August or September, your donation was itemized on your electronic receipt as "Annual Beagle Contribution". If you have lost track of your receipt or did not receive one, please email our PTA
Treasurer and she will send you another copy.
Finally we are in the middle of our last major fundraiser! In our first week, we have had a lot of families help their kids create their "Reader Pages" and we have had over
11,000 minutes read just in the first 4 days.
And it is not too late to sign-up. Look for a Read-a-Thon reminder coming home with your child early this week. Your child's "Reader Take Home Sheets" have instructions on how to sign-up your kids and take advantage of this fun program! There is even a prize for your child just for signing up.
This fundraiser is meant to be easy as we know all of you are busy. It is also a great supplement to our "Annual Beagle Contribution" and even better the Read-a-thon keeps a primary focus on encouraging reading and building literacy skills. If your company does not have a matching program or you have friends or family that want to donate directly to your child's academic enrichment programs at Rockwell, then this is the program for you. And if you just want to give a little more to support your child's academic enrichment, this is also the program for you!
Fun prizes like "Extra Recess Time", "Lunch with a Friend" and "Lunch with the Principal" are offered for two categories: "Minutes Read" and "Donations". In addition, we are offering a "Popcorn Party" and "Pinata Party" to each top class in "Minutes Read" and "Donations" respectively.
Thanks so much for your generosity and support,
Rockwell Parent and Rockwell PTSA Fundraising VP

*PTA Reflections Program entries are judged on three criteria (in order of importance): Interpretation of
the Theme, Creativity, and Technique. Interpretation of the Theme is the most heavily weighted criterion.
This is what makes the program unique; if two entries are tied, the entry with the higher score for
interpretation receives more recognition. Entries are divided by category then again by grade division
(Primary and Intermediate entries are judged separately). Judging is blind and impartial. Each entry is
evaluated by two category judges (volunteers from the community who are not affiliated with Norman
Rockwell Elementary, i.e. no teachers, staff or parents of participating students allowed) and scored using
a rubric provided by the National PTA Reflections Program.

Hello fellow Beagles,
I have decided to raise money for Pantry Packs again! My new
GoFundMe page was launched last week!
My goal is to help "food insecure" students in the Lake Washington School District (this includes Rockwell). The money I raise will help students get fed during the weekends.
A year ago, I raised $3000. This time I want to raise $4,500.
If you can, please donate
here.
Thanks,
