Join the Office of Sustainability and the Sustainable Development Minor to engage with alumni, current students, faculty, staff and Colorado Springs community members. There will be a special presentation on the new directions of the Office and experiential learning opportunities.
 
Spring Courses in Sustainability
  • COMM 4290-5290: Communication, Social Responsibility, and Sustainability
This class will meet every Thursday throughout spring semester,  4:45-7:20 pm, in Columbine 324

Background and Description:  The course offers students the opportunity to explore issues at the intersection of business, professions, and today's world, with special attention to efforts to make organizations more responsive to human and environmental needs.  The course has a transdisciplinary reach while being based in communication principles and practices. The 4290 section counts towards the undergraduate minor in Sustainable Development and the Compass Curriculum Sustainability requirement.

  • ECON 3310: Ecological Economics
This class will meet every  M/W 1:40-2:55.

Background and Description: 
Ecological economics is a new way of thinking about natural resources, economic well-being and sustainable development that builds on traditional economics, adding systems analysis, path dependency, and other new tools as well as the latest discoveries in the natural and physical sciences.The course counts towards the undergraduate minor in Sustainable Development and the Compass Curriculum Sustainability requirement.

MacInnis second at AAG regional meeting for winter storm research

Jana MacInnis, a senior geography and environmental studies student, earned second place in the undergraduate poster competition at the American Association of Geographers' Great Plains/Rocky Mountain Regional Division Fall Meeting Oct. 6 at Kansas State University.


Paid parental leave policy expanded to include classified staff

In response to University of Colorado employees' requests for a paid parental leave benefit for classified staff, the university will deliver this benefit beginning Nov. 1.

Classified staff will be eligible to take 160 hours of paid parental leave. Eligible employees can take four consecutive weeks of paid leave within one year of the birth, adoption or foster placement of a child.

2nd Annual UCCS Sustainability Summit a Success!

More than 100 faculty, students, and staff attended the 2nd Annual Sustainability Summit in Kettle Creek on October 26. Presentations were diverse from across campus and included sharing progress in the areas of curriculum, experiential learning, and research; operations and management of resources; and student advocacy and engagement.
